It all started in late 2011. I was young then. Young and naive. Looking for new and hip music, as always, I stumbled across a band called Cut Hands. Upon further investigation, I deduced that this band was an authentic African band. At first, I got the album Afro Noise I as kind of as a joke. A joke to show off to my peers.
Upon my first listen of Welcome to the Feast of Trumpets I was in utter awe. It all flowed together so well. The raw emotion coursing throughout the song. The whistles during the song made me feel as though I was in a Gym class in an exotic jungle, surrounded by rhinoceri and giraffes. Utter chaos. Beautifully honest. Absolutely incredible. I felt as though I was experiencing the troubles of these brave Africans first hand. Wonderfully Exotic instrumentation. Although I could not understand what these people were saying, I could feel the raw emotion of it all coursing through my veins.
After listening to Rain Washes Over Every Thing, the final song on the album, I cried tears of joy. Never had music made me feel this way.
Cut Hands is and will always be No. 1 in my book |
