Nuk climbed through the crowded bay of the albatross class dropship as it rocked through the blackness of space, the cabin lit red from the lights above. He passed through the command bay and into the cockpit, it's window overlooking the vast space ahead. Large chunks of metal floated calmly by the ship as it passed, Nafarian symbols etched on the larger chunks. The metal was all cleanly cut, as if by pulsefire.
"Fifteen minutes until we reach the destination sir." One of the pilot said to Nuk.
Nuk said nothing in reply but eyed the remains of the Razor class cruisers. He knew these humans had no access to pulsefire technology and yet, here lay the remains of three Razor class cruisers, each carved up by pulsefire technology. He was not the only one to notice this, as quickly a Sergeant by the name of Grisht spoke over the com channel that linked the three Albatross dropships.
"Sir, I thought these Humans only had projectile weaponry, these Razor's were sliced up sir, by pulsefire." He said, his calm voice filling Nuk's ears.
"Could have been a passing neutral ship who decided to play god, whatever it was, it is gone now and isn't to be thought of as a threat, lets keep our head focused on the mission at hand." Nuk replied.
Nuk couldn't help to think about what exactly had caused the destruction of this group of cruisers. Nafarian ships had the planet on total lockdown and any jump within one lightyear would have been noticed by any Nafarian ship and would have been dealt with promptly.
"Five minutes out now sir" The pilot said.
The human vessel could be seen clearly now. It was a bulky ship, fairly large in size, and box shaped. Large scars ran down it's side from the previous battle over Riforia. The ship remained dark and only a few lights shown through the windows, it's large, circular thrusters were dead, and the ship floated in space, dead. The word "Faith" was inscribed in neat, white lettering on the forward most portion of the ship. Two Albatross dropships began to pull ahead of Nuk's, each heading for the ship in the distance. Nuk began to walk away from the cockpit and into the command bay, slipping his helmet on and slamming a clip into a NR-30 he grabbed from one of the seats. A pilot from a neighboring Albatross opened up the coms and spoke, a tone of concern in his voice.
"Sir, I just ran diagnostics on the human ship" he began "Only fifty six percent of the ship till contains oxygen, fifteen percent contains oxygen but the gravity generators onboard have failed for these portions of the ship."
"And what problem does this present to us?" Nuk asked.
"Well sir, that leaves only the ships two smallest Hangars as a suitable entry point, and each can only hold two of our dropships."
"Simple, we will split up and meet in the middle, Dropships two and three will take the right hangar and one will take the left."
"Aye sir." The pilot said.
Nuk stepped into the cabin of the Albatross, where the twenty soldiers in his command sat. Each soldier had a NR-30 in hand, their armor glowing red.
"Alright men, we are a good two minutes off, use this time to check your supplies and your equipment." Nuk began as he walked up and down, looking into the V shaped red visors of his soldiers. "We will be in unknown territory, and these humans will know their ship far better than us. And remember, this is simply reconnaissance, we pop in, set the ship to blow, and pop out, am I clear?"
"Sir, yes sir!" The soldiers replied in unison.
Nuk nodded to himself as he walked to the center of the ship, two soldiers stool up and began to set up turrets and either side of the Albatross as the ship began to enter the hangar, the two doors along the sides of the dropship began to open, and white light flooded the interior of the dropship. The men on the turrets instantly swept through the hangar, looking for enemies. The hangar itself looked abandoned, boxes lay thrown about and a Nafarian fighter lay wedged into the far wall of the hangar. Two levels made up the hangar and a catwalk lay halfway up the wall. Clear windows on the wall marked an observation post.
"A bit quiet eh sir?" A Corporal by the name of Drenski said as he peered around from his seat.
"Quiet Corporal, you'll wake them" Nuk said back.
A second Albatross cruised seamlessly in after Nuk's, it's bay doors opening as well.
"Bring us down, slowly" Nuk said over the com.
As Nuk stated the order, a doorway opened down on the floor of the hangar, and a human soldier ran out, firing a rocket up at the albatross, it zoomed through the hangar, zipping right next to Nuk himself and exploded on the wall behind them. The dropship rocked from the blast. A larger group of humans began to run through the door behind the rocket bearing human and began firing at the dropships with smaller weapons fire. The turrets on the dropship began to return fire on the humans below, red bolts zipping down at the enemy.
"Contacts! Lots of contacts!" Drenski yelled, brining his weapon to bear as he stood up from his seat.
"Damnit, sir, we need to pull out I ca-" Began one of the pilots.
"No! No ship is to pull out!" Nuk said as he began to target enemy soldiers on the floor, firing off in short bursts.
Two more rockets were fired, smoke trailing behind them, each headed towards the second dropship.
"Evasive maneuvers!" Yelled one of the pilots over the com. No move could have saved the dropship however as both rockets hit their mark, one hitting the tail of the ship, and the other exploding against the belly. The ship began to spin, smoke and fire trailing from it. A handful of the occupants in the dieing ship's cabin jumped out of the ship, and slammed onto the floor, scrambling quickly to cover. After a few more seconds of violent spinning the ship careened into a side wall and and flew straight into the forward wall, the cockpit exploding on impact, taking five humans with it.
"Dropship down, I repeat, dropship dow-." A pilot said over the intercom before it cut off violently.
Nuk wondered what silenced the pilot, and he was soon given the answer as the ship began to slide violently downwards towards the forward wall itself. He cursed under his breath as he looked about his men.
"Everybody jump!" He yelled as he got up and ran for the edge of the ship, jumping out and landing on the hard metallic floor of the hostile ship, more followed suit as the ship crashed into the forward wall, it's engines whining before shutting off.
Nuk quickly ran for cover, finding it in a tipped cargo crate, the soldiers behind him moving in unison, firing towards the enemy, their rougetonium weapons echoing loudly in the metallic hangar. He snuck his head around the crate and allowed a short burst to go off from his weapon, and he was rewarded as a human soldier went down screaming, blood spurting from the wound in his chest. Nuk slipped back behind his cover, looking behind him. Two Nafarian soldiers lay dead behind him, bullet holes riddling their armor. Three more came from hiding places from behind him as well and began to move up, firing their rifles.
Nuk popped up from behind his cover and joined their charge, pumping his legs slowly and firing three short burst, only one of which hit their mark. Other Nafarians joined the charge as well, even those from across the hangar began to sweep from the left side, firing their weapons as well.
"Retreat!" The human leader soon yelled in a gruff voice, and as soon as they came, the humans left, filing through the opened doorway.
Nuk took a moment to rest as his men cheered, celebrating this small victory.
"Grisht, who's left?" Nuk asked.
"Seventeen lie dead sir, not including the pilots." The large Nafarian said as he approached Nuk, his weapon at ease.
"Any word from first squad?" Nuk asked.
"No sir, the com system went down with your ship, I can establish a new com if you wish sir." Grisht said.
"Do it, and figure out their situation, Drenski! Are you still alive son?"
"Here sir." Drenski said, kneeling next to the corpse of a Nafarian soldier, checking his vitals.
"Organize a small unit and scout nearby corridors, come back no later than ten minutes." Nuk said.
"Oh goody, scout the dangerous unknown ship filled with aliens that would want nothing more than to gut you" Drenski said sarcastically.
"What was that corporal." Nuk asked sharply.
"Oh, I mean, yes sir." Drenski said.
"The rest of you, set up defenses, we move out on Drenski's return, salvage what you can from the dropships." Nuk said.
"Sir, yes sir!" The ever loyal soldiers said in unison.
