The problem with Intel core i5 is that it costs a lot more then AMD.

Where you need 8 AMD cores for something, you can use 4 Intel cores. AMD is going down on quality. ThEir processors perform way worse than the Intel ones. I switched from an AMD to Intel, intel goes way faster, and you will not have to replace one as fast as an AMD processor. Spend your money wise. |

AMD is fine, people think more money = better but that simply isn't the case :(

I tried gaming with an Intel core xeon processor; their fastest one yet it sucked.

Get a GPU, don't rely on your CPU to do the work for you.
Go with a Nvidia GT 640 and an Intel i5 2400 (You can get both for around £100 on eBay if you look hard enough, not sure about dollars) |

| If you expect your CPU to process your graphics then your computer will be no better than a standard laptop. |

I built a computer that can run pretty much all games maxed out for £320.
You can sometimes find a GTX 650 for less than £100 on eBay if you get it second hand. That card will beast everything. |
