Being able to change you player controls to whatever suits you.
I want to change my player movement controls to E,S,D,F (since my W key is broken, and hard to use now).
Thanks for your consideration, support, and/or constructive criticism.

Basically, key-mapping to different points? Sure, many games have done it before, no reason why we can't as well. Heck, I myself would map the left and right arrow key commands to Q and E, so that I can have all of my movement and look keys in close proximity.

I think that would be tricky. Many games and gear have hotkeys. Other than that, it sounds like a good idea. |

Unexpurgated support; I would perchance alter my controls for maneuver (W, A, S, and D) to keys with the coequal distance between one another somewhere nearer to the nethermost of my keyboard.

Great...? I can only guess what coequal means.

| No support. Would ruin games where key presses are required for gameplay. |

@Dest; Just an inquiry, but, changing the key mappings... wouldn't that automatically change how they are registered?
Say, if I set Q to be Left Arrow, wouldn't that leave Left Arrow open to replace with Q? Therefore, those games are not adversely affected.

| They absolutely are. Lets say I have 'e' as my inventory toggle. If you change a character control to 'e' it would ruin the game experience. |

Problem in your logic: In-game key commands could be changed, meaning, if I set E to do what the Right arrow does, and then set the Right arrow to do what E does, then E would register as the right arrow, and the right arrow would register as E.
To put in terms of use, lets say E opens inventory, as you said. If I mapped E to right arrow, and right arrow to E, then by pushing the right arrow, I would open my inventory; by pushing E my character/camera would rotate right.

You can't change the game owners scripts... |

@Donut, it does nothing to change their scripts. It provides leeway for the core coding to alter how each key is registered.

So you want the hardware input to be changed before it gets to the Lua side.
Are you serious...? |

You can use the arrow keys too.

Or the in-game keys could reside in their present manner. The constituent would only impinge the controls for maneuver, not the settings of your keyboard.
And yes, my anterior remark was an affirmative one.
