But the squirrel will get the nut. Why?
The nut will eventually fall down. |

They should just get all their loyal members to transfer to a new group, and rebuild.

Yes but once the nuts fall, he will have a season of gorging himself. He shall find a mate, and his offspring shall have legs and surpass their Father.

But, the dry season is months away, and even if he survives, he surely cannot come up with a reliable water source for himself.

Considering that it's not the dry season, he'll likely have water. If I'm not mistaken squirrels have the capability of consuming tree bark and grass.

Unless he rations, and moves carefully until a point in time when the nuts fall, and he can be fat, find a mate, and then his offspring can surpass him. But since offspring are not by nature very helpful, I doubt they'll care for him, so after he has offspring, and such, he'll slowly die. Left but a legacy.

A small lived legacy. He will achieve his 5 minutes of fame and glory, but that will soon ware off. It will be old news within a week, and only his family shall pass down his pathetic story. It will then change from a true event, to a folk tale. No one shall believe what actually happened.
