I laid there on the soil. My back throbbing, muscles rigid. All I could hear was the echo of screaming and cries, and the muttering engine of the jet. Smoke filled the atmosphere, smells of petroleum fumed around my nose. It all happened too prompt. I was certain I was deceased. It seemed not even twenty-four hours ago, I was just waking up in my bed, laying along-side my wife, Amber, while my two kids, Amanda and Tyler sprinted through the door screaming; “Daddy, you’re going to miss your plane!” I sat up and about, and yawned greatly. I looked over at my clock, and it was 7:20. “Dang clock, was supposed to wake me up at 7:00.” I mumbled to myself. I twisted around, and not surprised, Amber was wide awake. I mean, who could snooze through two kids charging through your room, screaming. I leaned over and gave her a kiss. I rustled Tyler and Amanda’s hair. “Alright, time to get up.”, I said, heading over to the bathroom and grabbing my towel. I took my usual sunrise shower, shaved my facial hair, brushed my teeth, and then some. As I walked out of the bathroom, Amanda was laying there, back asleep. “I guess you aren’t a morning person.” I said aloud, not expecting a response. “Not as much as you are.” She groaned, in a happily tone. She stood up out of bed, and headed to the shower. I got dressed, and started going down the hall. It was 7:50. As I went down the stairs, I heard the laughter of kids. I ran upstairs, and rapidly opened the kids’ door. “You’re supposed to be going to school!” I screamed at them. “We missed the bus daddy, and we didn’t want to interrupt mommy sleeping.” Amanda said I sighed. This is just what I need to start my morning. I am almost late for a flight, and I still have to take my kids to school. I quickly packed my suitcase in the car, and ran back upstairs to tell Amanda good-bye, and that I will be back in 3 days. I scooped up the kids over my shoulders, and carried them down the stairs into the car. As we drove down the road, about a mile and a half from the school, my phone rang. “Hello, Mr. Riley speaking?” “Eric! Where are you, you’re about to miss the plane!” said Mr. Stout. The kids giggled to themselves. I reached my hand back and snapped at them. “Sorry sir, I have to drop off my kids at school, we got into a little jam this morning.” I said “Well hurry up! I'm not getting any younger here! I'm waiting for you at Terminal 17!" he exclaimed. For some reason, the sounding of Terminal 17 put a chill up my spine. I let the kids out of the car, and then took of down the street. I arrived at the airport at approxiamently 8:20. I parked my car in the long-term parking section, and got my suitcase from the trunk. I walked through the airport door, and went up to the attendant at the desk. "Where is Terminal 17 located?" I asked the lady. "Go down this path, up the escalator, and then the 4th terminal to the left. Good Luck!" "Good luck?", I thought to myself. "What is that supposed to mean?" I met up with my boss, Mr. Stout. He was a little pudgy dude, grumpy as can be, but wouldn't hurt a single fly. "It's about time," he said rudely. We walked down the Terminal, and I spotted a bathroom. I asked him to wait, while I go restroom before we get on the long flight. As I was in the stalll, I noticed written on the side "Turn back now!" Silly kids, I thought to myself as I was washing my hands. But, in retrospec, I should have realized the universe was telling me not to go on this trip.
