The ability to order Physidigital copies of games you own. These would be obtained by paying for printing costs + shipping. (They could also be sold in brick 'n' mortar stores as copies of the game, though this would be repurchasing the game as it would have a different CD key)
The shipping + printing cost is rather cheap. Printing is about $5 max, shipping could probably even be free as they aren't hard to ship. Paired with sales, this would result in physical collector games being cheaper than their console counterparts.
Also, for those who do not know...
Physidigital = A physical copy of the game that requires a code to be used (in this case, a Steam key)

| if it's just a code on a card, then you would still have to download the game. which kinda defeats the purpose, because people who go to game stores either don't want to download multi gigabyte games or their parents don't want to buy things off of the Internet. I guess the latter crowd would find use for this, but the former won't. |

@amal
The install would be done via disc. Considering disc installs are a LOT faster than internet downloads it would also benefit those with slow download speeds.

the fact little games are available on disc, thus closing the market to those with low download speeds and physical collectors?
it would open the PC gaming market to a wide variety of people.

this is more so directed to the games that do not have physical copies or those that were bought digitally by those who wish to collect physical copies

the logistics and distribution would be a nightmare for both Steam and the game devs/publishers.
overall, there is absolutely no benefit for Steam. |

"the logistics and distribution would be a nightmare for both Steam and the game devs/publishers."
perhaps if they distributed them to stores, like part of my suggestion said, yes but if they simply distributed them to the end user, no
"overall, there is absolutely no benefit for Steam."
1. physical copies would aid a lot of console gamer's conversion to the PC, in which they, like most, would more than likely mostly use Steam
2. it's easy to make a quick profit on something that is insanely cheap to produce

| OR.. You could just go to the shop/online and buy a physical-digital copy of the game. |

If they where not made to have boxes, why would they do this?
Most small indie games don't have boxes, due to the fact that they are cheap and not worth printing. |

"If they where not made to have boxes, why would they do this?"
the fact a lot of people collect physical copies and would prefer this to a digital copy you of all people should understand this, miss not-buying-3DS-XL-because-FE:A-is-preinstalled-instead-of-physical
"Most small indie games don't have boxes, due to the fact that they are cheap and not worth printing."
what's worth printing or not is subjective from person to person if they feel an indie game is an absolute GEM and they might want the physidigital copy either way, steam could easily print the games as needed, thus they could only make a profit due to literally no time wasted

| But what about the likes of $10 indie games, most people feel like they are not worth printing though. I would love for every game to have a box, but it is not going to happen. |

@problem
which is why they would print the games as needed if people felt them worth printing, they would print the copies ordered if not, they would not be inclined to sell any copies as they did not print in advance

| What if some developers don't want a physdisc (might of said it wrong, but oh well) of their game? Some developers are happy doing digital distribution rather than discs. |

| Sometimes it isn't possible to print it though. Some DS game that is coming to the E-shop, they wanted it to be a physical cartridge, but they couldn't afford it. |

DS cartridges are proprietary. PC games would run via standard CDs (smaller games, to reduce cost and increase profit) and DVDs. Depending on how Valve handles it, I'm sure it will be entirely possible to do so.

You would lose out on steam sales, no more 3~ dollar games with both the developer and valve happy. The whole idea of steam is to get past brick-and-mortar limitations,such as a base price point, or even worldwide distribution. In short, your idea that 'introduces' console gamers doesn't make them 'convert', because the bargain bin games are priced the same, $20 for consoles, and $20 for PC's |

@spear
1. The only part that nullifies Steam's purpose is to make them available at brick'n'mortar stores, which a few games already are.
2. Fallout 3 GOTY via Steam Sale = $5 + est. $5-$10 for disc printing/shipping = $15 max (though will probably be closer to $10)
Fallout 3 GOTY at Gamestop = $13
It's still saving money, depending on how much the printing and shipping would cost.
