I, the abdicated king of this subforum must ask:
What the hell do you guys mean by saying that the website is going to look more like the mobile app? that sounds horrendous to me. |

"abdicated king"
just 'cause your vocab is better than most of the populace doesn't make you the king.
tell me how much time and effort you put into being the king of this subforum |

I developed the method that allows iPod touch 4g users with jailbreak to play games on RM.

| You can play games even without jailbreaking quite easily, or just use a previously developed method of replicating a different device to trick the app into thinking the 4G is the 5G, so I highly doubt you came up with anything original. |

I did.
You simply had to use a useragentfaker and a bit of ram freeing. |

| You came up with nothing original because that is what I said in my post, except I went into details which you don't seem to have understood, plus you can hack it into using ZRAM and as such can get more effectiveness for the RAM amount. |

I developed that first.

Well, now that the flames have died down (I hope), where did you hear "the website is going to look more like the mobile app"?

Where the hell were you when the chaos of RM occurred? Before the app launched? Before m.roblox?
I was here, and I am the proclaimed king, and tobot and vlad are my noble knights. |

I think I may have warned Evelio once for being too authoritarian on the forum. Should he be the deposed king of the forum? :-D
Anyways, I can't find that blog article, and neither can Google. I can only assume it was in reference to some designs we've been playing with.
I think what we would really like is a consistent experience across all platforms: PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, and other mobile devices. The idea we're playing with is to meet in the middle: make the app more like the website, and the website more like the app. You can see this a little on the new download page for instance: http://www.roblox.com/Download (though you may need to uninstall roblox to see it). The blue city background is emblematic of the app (we have an animated version of it as well), but the text and green, square-cornered button are consistent with the website (along with the navigation and footer). I don't know if this is really the future look of the website/app, but it's one of the styles we're exploring.
This is more of a general direction than a defined goal. The specifics are really still unknown. Our rules right now are simple: only make pages on the website that are iPad friendly and are easily converted to new designs, and don't make pages on the mobile app that we wouldn't be able to use on other platforms. Everything else is just trying to figure out what an app/website like this would look and feel like, and what the all-around look of Roblox should be.
What sounds bad to you about making the website more like the app? How do you imagine it? |

I really can't stand over simplicity in anything. The app irritates me because it takes longer to get to places than on the website.
I understand the reasoning behind this with the app but I am anxious as to the website getting a similar layout and menu system. Also the rolling background seems slightly tacky but if you make it look nice I think you could pull it off. I think it should focus more on building and gameplay though rather than just a rolling landscape. Something to get potential users excited, when I joine the video of builing the blue and black offices then having a fight in a destructable enviroment amazed and enthralled me and I think this method of hooking people to the game should be brought back. Not just an advert with a horribly corny voiceover. "DESTROY EVERYTHINNNNGGGGGGGG"
Potentially also have a bit about massive 50,000+ player clans as this could attract a more hardcore player base that also want a bit of a social aspect. At the monent I only really see advertising and promotion that shows singleplayer building/fighting or a fairly generic multiplayer experience. Work with major clans to show that aspect of the game. I'm sure the thought of large wars would really entice new players, alongside the social aspect of meeting and playing with tens of new friends within a group.
also eve I joined 6 days before you. you never new old roblox11!!1one

| actually eve you reminded me of an attempt in mid 2010 for a roblox to android port. the guy workig on it was doing amazingly well and was able to play dodge the teapots online without any textures. sadly the project was abandoned but it was truly fascinating to see someone create it from scratch himself years before the roblox staff. |

| I think the complexity vs simplicity argument is a tough one. We don't want to confuse a new user with too many options, but we don't want to handicap an expert user either. This is a UI design problem that occurs frequently, and isn't usually solved easily. We are very sensitive to that particular concern. |

I think the solution is to target areas less experienced players use.
For example the games page, if that had a simpler layout it would not harm experienced players much, but leave the forums as they are and don't simplify them. |
