| I don't know about the other three (because I never knew there were sequels until now), but the original Hatchet by Gary Pulsen was an awe-inspiring preteen survival novel about a boy stuck between his divorced parents, sadly alone, and transforms into a developed, more independent character. He discovers his latent bravery and survivalism through stubborn winters and darkly submerged treasures with only a hatchet to emotionally and physically safeguard himself, and, in the end, learns more about himself than the bustling wilderness of the North. |

| From what I remember it was okay, but not stupendous or anything. |

@JF
The sequels are the River, Brian's Winter, and Brian's Hunt. The sequels are extremely bad, especially Brian's Hunt. |

VladskiBanAlt, I researched these sequel fiascoes and saw that their plots were too literal and somewhat repetitive... On a lighter note, Pulsen's Dogsong was nice. |

| I read it back in fifth grade, but I moved this year to a different school and had to read it again this year. It was even worse than I remembered it being, and I couldn't stand reading Brian complain about the "secret" and his parents and all that stuff. It was horrible. |
