| This really fat girl at school asked her friends if she was fat. They told her she was the skinniest person they knew. |

That's kinda mean. Everyone is beautiful in some way[3] Except when someone is very obviously overweight and you tell them it's not, I'd find that offensive if I was the overweight person. It shows that my friends can't be honest with me. |

| In a practical sense, it is because they are trying to be polite and respectful. In a philosophical sense, one might postulate Plato's theory of aesthetics, where beauty is one of his mystical Forms. Aesthetics and ethics seem to be subjective to the culture they are expressed in, or the subject they are concerned with. There might be an absolute basis for everything that is good, evil, pretty, and ugly, but such a basis would likely be purely hypothetical, not so much the objective concept Plato argues. But who knows what some guy who lived thousands of years ago really said, or thought? |

| Cause if one of them feels ugly she'll overdose on diet pills or live a life of depression never feeling the same again, or they just like to be nice. |

@superCrazyHuman
While my heart sheds many tears at this, my mind vaguely agrees with you in the sense that it has limited practical use. But here is where we bring the philosophy in; could defining the human environment and what its meaning and distinct implications are be considered a "practical purpose" if that purpose is to shed light on the human experience for future discoveries to be made, possibly refining human culture, society, law, order, and economic prosperity? Not to mention divining the theological, metaphysical, and epistemological to discover what humans are doing on Earth, or if there is any reason for our existence whatsoever. |

Because girls are much more respecting creatures. We love each other despite our looks. |

@SadWeasel
True, and men mindlessly slaughter each other based on the shape of their chins, while women constantly shower even the most undesirable member of their clique with seemingly unearned praise. I tend to think that large differences between the two genders are just perceived, and probably don't have much weight supporting the perceptions. The research done on the subject agrees, save for some nuances, such as expected cultural norms. |

| If you could point me in the direction of some legitimate scientific research to support that, I would appreciate it. To me it just seems like you are declaring a view of female supremacy (might be a bit of a dramatization, not sure), that isn't well-founded in modern psychology. I know I didn't specifically cite my sources, but you are welcome to do your own research, as I can't provide links to peer-reviewed journals or anything useful like that. |
