This is in response to a quote from Deadspin, " go post in OT with your buddy hawks, we don't autism in this forum"
I don't know why this sentence in particular struck a chord with me. Probably because of A. The stupidity of its context. And B. The fact that this may be the first time I've been on the receiving end of the "autistic" comment, which is odd, because, I am.
That's right, I have a very mild form of autism, I don't receive special help for it, partly because I'm embarrassed. It's not particularly dehabilitating towards me, but I act a little weird sometimes, and that's where it causes me problems. Because I acted weird, people saw me as different, and that's why that one thing happened to me (those who know what I'm talking about get it). It's not so much the problem with me, but the lack of understanding from other people, and that's what I see here.
Seriously, if you think that "autistic" is in any way, shape, or form an intelligent or acceptable insult, then I think that you're the one that has something wrong with your head. I don't have it bad, but there are plenty of people who do, and it makes their lives harder than you can believe. I'm honestly not sure where to go from here, because the plain lack of character that is shown by that behavior is just plain appalling, yet, sadly, all too real.
I know that a few years ago, I RQed the SF a lot, due to bad games or mild flamewars. But this time, it's on principle. I'm sick and tired of seeing the word "autistic" being used as an insult, because it's not, nor should it ever be.
Thank you if you read the whole thing.

| I don't like it either (even though I'm sure I've used it once or twice? Just in case somebody cares enough to dig something up), but it's used widely around the internet and it's not going to change, unless a new "insult" comes along. That's the sad truth of it. |

woah there tato,
you say Chriz "displays no symptoms of autism"
yet you claim "if you act autistic, you have autism", and call Chriz autistic

| Oh, is this a type of disease that eventually disables your ability to walk? Sorry to hear you have to deal with that everyday. =( |

right, except autism is a disorder.
just because you "act autistic" doesn't mean you are.
