I have been testing dynamic lighting , and I can say I am more-than-impressed. :D
However, there are a few things that need to be fixed:
1.) Character Shadows:
The character's tools and hats should be included in the character's shadow. Also, when the character is indoors, the sun-related shadow should not show, but rather a shadow rendered using the new method.
2.) Lights showing through blocks:
It is dissappointing to be on the other side of a wall, and see a light though it. This problem happens mostly with the spherical light sources.
*On the flip side, this should happen consistantly with transparent bricks, and would be a great added feature.
3.) Voxel Shadows:
The voxel shadows look great, except for the shadows on the bottom surface of voxels. They are scaled improperly. This should be a simple fix. |

| Sounds good, but gear are meshes; they cant have shadows. |

True, but I meant character shadows.
The character head and body meshes are in the character shadow, so I don't know why gear can't be. |

| Body meshes work differently then gear and hats. |

Yeah, that's true.
Either way, it would be a good addition. |

| I think you should put this under help (tech. support) because I think they don't know about it and it's considered a glitch. |

| For example, if you ungroup a Robloxian with a 2.0 body the 2.0 parts will become blocks. I believe that they create shadows with only those specific meshes. |

1. We're aware of the problem. Basically, currently character shadows use an approach that's completely separate from the new dynamic lighting, and there might not be an easy way to merge the two. This won't make it into the initial release, but we should fix this eventually.
2. This is the top request from people who tried using lighting. Taking parts into account when doing lighting computation is involved - we currently only have a robust solution for the sun/moon, but not for the local lights. Once again, this won't make it into the initial release but we're trying to figure out a good way to do this without causing too many performance issues.
3. Are you referring to the shadow that the brick casts on itself? There is an offset in the shadow - it's a fundamental restriction on the way we apply the lighting to blocks. I'll add this defect to our list of things to fix - not sure if it's fixable though :( |
