1 - mission variety sure, most the missions are assassination missions, but unlike far cry 3, you aren't restricted to the machete. you can do virtually anything you want in the missions. plus buddy side-missions and objectives are intresting and fun 2 - you are sick after the intro, you have malaria and you can not cure it. it disables you from sprinting and makes it harder to aim temporarily. it happens more often later in the game making for good challenge 3 - weapon variety sure, there's your generic assult rifles, snipers, shotguns and pistols. but this game has flamethrowers, mortars, ieds, and more. 4 - buddies why would ubisoft remove this from far cry 3? buddies were interesting and very helpful, saving your life when you think you'll get killed and upgrading your safehouse now and then. 5 - diamonds currency is rare, which means that you won't be finding any money on enemies. you'll only find them from doing missions or from diamond cases, found using your gps 6 - map system i like it more then the traditional map system in games, that's about it.
it only lacks in two things ai and endings and good god is the end bad

oh, and 7 - balance unlike in far cry 3 where you can have a 3 bullet kill lmg early on in the game, in far cry 2 even with some of the latest items you earn in the game you are still killable. even with the m40 + saw you still will get killed now and then

@tydog
i actually found that fun, because it makes room for a better feeling of exploration then most other free-roaming games because the world is huge and there is much to find. if you were fast traveling all over the darn place then you'll find nothing other then your destination, while in FC2, you'll probably find some diamond cases, ammo stashes, or even quests.

there's 4 different biomes in the game, 5 if you count forest heart which is a sub-biome
forest woodlands savannah and desert
the worldn't doesn't repeat much because if you think about things such as quest locations, water locations, and base locations the worldn't doesn't feel like it repeats at all, just looks similar.
"everything looks the same"
there's a lot of popular games with repeating biomes, terrarria, don't starve, and of course, the controversial minecraft.

why are we talking about minecraft and terraria again? anyway, those are building games. you are acordingly supposed to be able to shape things, yet you hardly can without putting several sittings in or playing in something that makes it easy
plus, far cry 2 is not a game about shaping enviroments. it's a first person shooter, not a first person builder. plus, far cry 3 had even less variety with just beach and forest biomes. if you want to hate on shooters with little enviroment variety, then far cry 3 is better to get teary-eyed over.

It's a game, you need to play it to do what you want, and 4 biomes isn't a lot.

far cry 2 = 5 biomes far cry 3 = 2 biomes
"it's a game, you need to play it to do what you want" kudos, but my problem is that i don't want to task myself with playing game that feels like a boring chore to shape the enviroment, and for what? a spot where you could build a small hut? if you want to flatten an area or replace an entire biome, it will take you an annoying amount of time. and even worse, minecraft has only 3 BIOMES. not counting beach biomes. to me, a polished fps is better then an unpolished building game.

malaria guns jamming and breaking taking a good turn from traditional fps-free roamers like fallout to me, none of far cry 2's mechanics are the best thing ever, but they are much better then average game mechanics.
oh, and to finish off that minecraft topic, minecraft, to me, isn't an indie game. thinking that it is will make me unable to sleep at night because i am a fan of quite a few indie games.

okay then, a few days. but you are missing the point i was trying to make, far cry 2 is definately not the first game with a map system. it takes a different turn from the map system other games have where they are hid in a menu. while in fc2 it's your 5th weapon.

"shooter"
Yes, guns are an ideal, and sometimes encouraged route, but it's not exclusively a shooter.

I found the world dull to look at I liked the lush jungle far cry 3 had and how you can get sidetracked easily through all the extras "but this game has flamethrowers, mortars, ieds, and more." far cry 3 has a flamethrower too, c4,mines,bow and arrow, molotovs, etc. |

@lion i should also note far cry 2 has a "pistol shotgun", crossbow, and a dart rifle. the recurve bow is bad far cry 3's flamethrower is underpowered and worthless, unlike far cry 2's being a weapon of mass destruction. c4 and mines are underpowered too. far cry 2's was far more powerful then any other mine in game history which made perfect sence since it was a darn explosive device. and far cry 2 had molotovs which were also weapons of mass destruction.

and, also, i find myself liking the african theme more because it's more original then some remote tree-filled island with a full 2 biomes
