We're going to be getting a surplus of NFL and NBA players, veterinarians, artists, and game designers. Why can't somebody aspire to be someone... important for once?
God... it's so sad... |

when discussing career options the minds of young people often change
they'll get over it soon. |

| By high school you'd assume that they'd do enough research to know that they can't get a sports scholarship by watching it on TV. |

well because only people in ohio who have went past middle school want to be NFL and NBA players, veterinarians, artists, and game designers.
so you're probably still in middle school |

| It's pretty rediculous do judge people by their state. Do you live in Ohio, because that can happen anywhere. |

| Unless you've been to every school in every state that is a false judgement. |

Well we can't really have a surplus of professional sports players if they are only limited spots. They won't ever need more than they have now, and a sports scholarship is the reason 1/4 of the kids can go to school any ways. Only 5% of ALL college athletes get drafted into the NFL. That's a pretty small percentage, but it comes from the hundreds of colleges in the United States. What about being a Vet? That is honestly an important job, and a difficult one at that. To get into vet school you need 4 years of under graduate college, and your GPA (grade point average, average of all your grades) can't be lower than a 3.5 and even that is going low. Then you need 4 years of vet school before you can even practice on your own, I can assure you that this is hard, you need to know the anatomy (body parts and functions) of many animals, both domestic, and wild life. If you don't just want to work with cats or dogs, then you need a few years of residency afterwards. This is an EXTREMELY difficult process, and to do it you need to love what you do. My cousin got into vet school and is currently in her second year, she has friends from college who are in Medical school, and even they said that vet school is harder to get into then most Medical schools. Let people do what they want in life, without casting your judgement, if someone dreams about being a vet let them go through the hard process, just give them a little respect. As long as a job makes you happy, It doesn't matter what it is. |

I'm still not convinced.
Hopefully most who pursue a career in NFL/NBA today with no thought of something to fall back on get some sense slapped into them...
And so far I've seen about 3 times as many people want to be vets than doctors. I think it ought to be the other way around. |

Why does it matter as long as the career makes them happy? What am I trying to convince you..? Obviously when most people are asked what they want to be they'll just shrug and say I don't know, when they obviously have something in mind, where I am I've met a LOT of people who want to go into medicine, and only a few who want to be vets. You're just getting your statistics from a small group of people, If you were to take a survey there would be MANY different careers, ranging from Agriculture Chemistry Earth Sciences Life Sciences Math Construction Trades Drafting Education Electrical Trades Heating & Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Physical Sciences Technology Art Audiovisual Technologies Drama Graphic Design Journalism Literature Speech Accounting Business Computer Applications Economics English Information Technology Language Arts Psychology Science Social Studies Banking Business Law Financial Services Foreign Language Government History Biological Sciences Occupational Health Classes Food Services Marketing Social Sciences Consumer Sciences Family Finance Sociology Applications (Computer) Communications Computer Tech First Aid First Responder (First Aid) Law Enforcement Geometry Industry Physics Trade Computer Networking Computer Aided Drafting Electronics Technical Classes Technology Education so It depends on the group of people, most people participating in college sports don't plan to fall back on it, hence them majoring in things like biology, or even art history. As long as it makes someone happy why does it matter to you?

| He has a point, you're being a little stupid. We'll never have that great of a surplus with all those other fields, and sub fields. |
