~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A Couple of Keys to Success with Discipline~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently, I have noticed a rather disturbing decline in discipline among F.E.A.R. members. I believe we can keep this from becoming a continuous trend if we follow two simple rules.
The main thing I want to point out is the importance of low-ranks calling their superiors “sir”. Every time someone calls their superior “sir”, they are being reminded subconsciously of who is in charge. When soldiers are constantly being reminded, it helps to keep order and discipline. I understand why certain high-ranks would wish to tell low-ranks that they do not need to address them as “sir”. The high-ranks are trying to break down the low-rank/high-rank barrier and become friends. This course of action, however, creates undisciplined soldiers over time. The soldiers begin to feel as though they aren’t subordinate to their superiors; rather, they feel as though they are up to par with them. When soldiers feel such a way, it’s no wonder why they might not listen to the orders of their superiors.
A lot of people actually want to call people “sir”. It’s not so much that they wish to be a follower; they want to be a part of a hierarchy that they can move up in. A hierarchy creates ranks which people will aspire to get to. These soldiers want to be a part of a group in which great leadership is evident. When you try to put everyone on the same level, you actually crush the dreams which many people would have had for becoming a high-rank in the group which means a lot to them. To people who say that a hierarchy isn't important...If you don’t want to be in a hierarchical group, then you should have never joined a military. The soldiers I mentioned have been alienated from becoming great in F.E.A.R.; they have moved on to become fantastic high-ranks in other groups. Simply put, having soldiers call their superiors “sir” makes it possible to have great high-ranks in a group.
It’s of great importance that groups make sure their soldiers wear uniforms. For some reason, a lot of people I have seen tend to want to wear anything but their uniform. People don’t seem to understand that there are many reasons uniforms are important to militaries. Uniforms can give soldiers a sense of unity when wearing them (it’s much harder to treat people badly who you feel a sort of sameness with), it can promote discipline (the uniform reminds soldiers that they are in a military, and as such, they need to behave properly), and it can help to make soldiers feel proud to be in the group.
In conclusion, having soldiers call their superiors “sir” and making sure they are wearing their uniforms helps to promote discipline among groups. I would like to point out that almost every military in history has required this.
| Sir, I completely agree with this. I think we need a push factor on discipline. |
I'll read this later.
All I know about discipline is the first one to disobey gets thrown onto the ground and bites a curb.
Then I get my big ol'boot and channel my inner Issac Clark. |
Yippee.
I still will flip on anyone that calls me "sir."
That personal preference still stands. NEVER call me "sir." |
How many countless forums have been made on this?
Good logic; still cliche. There is a difference with instilling discipline and just being straight up mean. Dun confuse the two pl0x.
| @bee I see most low-ranks wearing their uniforms, but mid-ranks tend to slack off when it comes to wearing them. |
| @red Perhaps this forum will change some higher ranking members viewpoints so the change can take place. |
