@meldo
Yes, but if you take away the god-awful amount of ports, that's still a ridiculous amount.

Halo is only a decade old, which is nothing compared to Mario.

I don't think it's very fair to compare a game that has been around for 30 years to games that have been around for 10(CoD) and 12(Halo) years. Infact, if CoD had been made 30 years ago, I'm sure it would have more sequels than the Mario and Halo games combined.
Also, Mario is "milked" because it is a classic game. It brings a nostalgic feel back to many gamers. I'll admit, Mario can be unoriginal at times, but it's just as unoriginal as CoD is. |

| Each successive Mario game (generally) innovates more than each year's rushed CoD title. Heck, half the Mario games out there are complete spin-offs, and each new "main" Mario title (64, Sunshine, Galaxy) has completely reinvented the series. |

@tobi
classic =/= an excuse to milk the series to death
Also, CoD released one major title every year and usually a mobile or portable spin-off alongside it. While I'm not saying CoD isn't milked, it's nothing compared to Mario. Just because a series is "nostalgic" doesn't give Nintendo the excuse to abandon any hope of decent IPs while they release 4-5 Mario spinoffs every year.

The thing is that whenever Nintendo tries to create a new IP, it's always a disaster. Remember Wii Music?

DECENT IPs. Not console tools meant to serve as minigames.

Back then, almost every Mario game was ported to consoles outside of Nintendo. Like DK, DKJ, etc. |

But that doesn't change the fact that Mario has been here since 1981. Minus the item that was outside of a Nintendo console. |

A 32 year old franchise doesn't need 200+ games, though.
