Hey,
While I was filling out another job application today and copying over the software and video production companies that I have worked for over the years, I wondered if roblox could ever be used as a source on an application. It can already be used for demonstrations however, many people here have done more than just that. Personally, I am a wiki writer and editor which I wish would count for something more but even if you are not apart of the wiki staff there are multiple other accomplishments people have done here that could be useful. Such as figuring out advertising, group management, etc. ( which all go more under skills and education but you get the point ).
I know roblox will most likely not want to help with being a source for many of us however it seems like a nice possibility for the future.

Seems like excellent blog-fodder, so I'm sure ROBLOX would love to do that. And of course, we would all be willing to post on a forum how good you are at Lua and whatnot.
I don't think it'll carry as much weight, but it's something. |

* developed a game which has been played over 16 million times
That's the sort of thing I'd put on a resume. You should not put down ROBLOX as a contact unless you have actually worked there. |

| Yes but if I were planning on writing a resume then I would undoubtedly procrastinate at least one day at which point it would have surpassed 16 million visits. |

| Yea, I think you should. If I didn't start at ROBLOX I would not know my 13 programming and scripting languages I do today. |

Do you consider HTML a programming language? |

@Seranok:
Your game is scripted. However, if someone would create an 1 million visits obby, you can also say "my game was visited 1 million times" - but you didn't code a line.
Differences. |

| I used it in my college application and don't think I would have gotten in without it. |

"Somebody should create a markup language for roblox GUIs." Julien's already trying to make an XHTML version for ROBLOX... :/
Anyway, @lah seriously? |

Also I have used some things I have made in roblox as apart of my resume however the only references I ever put down are past employers, jiu-jitsu instructors and wrestling coaches. Having roblox would add a bit more diversity. Also I am not worried either way, it was just a thought. |

"Somebody should create a markup language for roblox GUIs."
You're late on the idea, not on the implementation.

@Quenty, yarly, I sent them a link to my A* pathfinding script, which, while terribly written, had 700 takes at the time. I also talked a lot about how ROBLOX is great for game designers, and quoted ROBLOX's about page. Of course at the time I was aware that my admissions officer did admissions specifically for Game Design so he knew enough about it to know what the program was, and I didn't expect them to take the time to go through it and decide whether it was well written. Since Binary Heaps and A* are college-level algorithms (although binary heaps do get taught in AP), it was enough to look impressive.
Basically the best thing to do is to make a model that a lot of people take or a game that is actually good, and it will look great on college apps. |
