So, I was sufring the interwebz, and I decided to check up on the blog because I haven't checked it in a while. In it there was an artcile about bevels and dynamic lighting. One of the comments was, "this will look good for when you're playing games and graphics but it will make builders have to play the game to make sure the lighting is correct and it will put more work on builders." In my opinion, this particular individual must not have a good grasp on the efforts involved in creating a good game, and so accordingly, my reply to this comment was, and I quote,
"So? You can't make a totally amazing game in one day. It takes hours of work and a pretty broad knowledge of a)programming, b)pop culture (what are people actually going to WANT to play), c) modeling, and d)writing, if the game is to have a storyline. I mean, look at Rockstar's GTA series. It used to be every year that they came out with a new game for it, but when gaming tech advanced, around the time of the PS3/360 era, they knew they were going to have to make their games larger and more complex. This, as a result, is making them churn out titles at a much slower rate. I mean, come on, GTA IV came out in '08, and V STILL isn't out yet! And the "Episodes from Liberty City" 3-pack of games doesn't count. They're just IV with different characters and missions. Since the enviornment was already there, those probably didn't take that long to make.

Roblox is basically the same way. The tech of ROBLOX, what with the terrains and the water and the dynamic lighting and all that, is advancing, meaning that builders are naturally going to have to push themselves harder to make what would now be considered as being a good game. After all, what was "cutting edge" a couple of years ago, possibly even a couple of MONTHS ago, isn't going to be the same way now. That's just how the gaming industry works in general, not just on here. And as far as builders having to take the time out of their day to see if the lighting is correct, they already have to do that with everything else anyway. Once again, going back to my GTA analogy, I'm pretty sure the Rockstar devs didn't get everything perfect the first time they made it. There were probably a crap-ton of glitches and imperfections that had to be smoothed over, and even then, after the release, people still found a few small problems. But also once again, every game is like that. Sure, it applies to some more than others, but that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. If every game development team took the time to fix every little thing that was wrong with their games, no one would be able to play anything because their games would be in a seemingly endless beta stage. A good example is this old N64 FPS game I have called "Armorines: Project SWARM". In this game, you can take control of one of two military characters who's job is to kill these large alien insects that are invading Earth. Well, in this particular game, there are various bosses. They are some of the most glitchy bosses I have ever seen in gaming. Firstly, the 3rd boss almost ALWAYS freezes up in the 2-player campaign mode, making it IMPOSSIBLE to kill. And the final boss? Oh god, don't get me started. There is a glitch on this levitating bridge located near the teleporter to the boss room that allows you to bypass half the level. Then, when you actually fight the boss, if you stand with your back against the wall of the room before it comes out, it won't be able to see you AT ALL! It'll just keep spinning around in circles looking for you, which gives you ample time to kill it. At least for the first half of the fight. Then, once you destory the wierd wiggly antenna on the top of it's head like you're supposed to, it starts spitting out these damn misquito things that can sadly see you no matter how far you are away, meaning you have to actually get out of cover and actually start attacking it up close. Which isn't that bad, because it's only other attack that it actually does itself, which is supposed to be a long electric attack, doesn't even work in single player mode! You can easily get hit by it, I mean, it's like, practically unavoidable, but it makes you take about zero damage. Whereas in two-player mode, BOTH glitches are perfectly fixed... Not only can you bee seen by it from all the way across the room AND it's primary attack takes away up to a quarter of your health... But, regardles of these, eh, quirks, it is still a very playable and fairly fun game.
So, basic synopsis of the above rant: 1. Good games aren't exactly easy to make. 2. what makes a game "good" is generally based on the content and the complexity, which is directly proportional to the level of technology associated with the platform 3. Games don't necessarily have to be perfect to be good."

I see.
If only people would expend the effort to build more of their OWN places and not rip off everyone else's, then maybe the front page wouldn't suck so badly, and maybe the community would be a lot better, or at least be able to assume the look of being so, because people wouldn't be nagging at everybody for making "sucky, copied places".

I read all of it because I am used to reading long articles. But I agree, we need to have games that actually have effort put into them.

Well, if you're talking about how game creators SHOULD play through their game and see how it looks before publishing, I agree.

If you're talking about dynamic lighting possibly messing up most games, I'd image it'd be optional. Like, an option in the place configuration, or a service.

@IJustPwndYou
Well, dynamic lighting would make a good addition to the games. It is something the older games wouldn't have, that is, if the creators decide not to put it in, of course. Since most gamers are often interested in the complexity and detail of the game, adding lighting might make it more marketable because it would look better.

Indeed it would.

Certainly a terrific update, and worth the cost of removing bevels.

I agree the gaming market is always having to push boundaries that shouldn't be different in roblox. People should go through their game on roblox more often instead of calling it good and making billions of ads for it. I prefer to see a game take forever but to be executed beautifully then a game that had a nice concept but the creator just decided to slap some stuff on it and call it good. Builders should always look through their games adding dynamic lighting shouldn't make difference.
I also am excited for dynamic lighting, I can't wait until they release it on the gametest1 So I can get a chance to use it before it fully gets released.
