What kind of world do we live in?
Where a young life
Can be ruined in seconds
By someone who has never spoken a word to them
What kind of world do we live in?
Where everyone only looks out for themselves
And no bothers to repeat or pass on
Anything but lies
What kind of world do we live in?
Where your worst enemy
Can only be yourself
Because perfection has become mandatory
What kind of world do we live in?
Where a child can be driven
To taking their own life
Because another child has been so cruel
What kind of world to we live in?
Where people turn a blind eye
Even though they know it's happening
And they let it happen
What kind of world do we live in?
We live in an imperfect world
But there are no more excuses
For letting the cruelty win |

| Above, it's the bulliers fault, of course. Because they drove them into wanting to commit suicide. |

See that kid you called fat? He is overweight.
See that kid you called stupid? He is stupid.
Don't bully. |

What do I care what others feel? If words are true they should be spoken. No mercy should be given for those who ragequit. After all, they aren't me. I don't feel what they feel.

You can't be bullied if you don't let yourself be bullied. Committing suicide because you were bullied is your own weakness, not the fault of the bully. While it is wrong to bully people, the real issue with bullying is that people actually let themselves believe whatever the bully is telling them. You shouldn't blame the bully for everything that happens to someone.
I have an analogy for what I'm saying that may explain it somewhat better. Let's say someone is a real jackwagon and pushes a guy down the stairs, which ends up making the guy mentally disabled. You punish the bully, and move on with your life. A couple years later, the mentally disabled guy fails a test because he is mentally disabled. Do you go all the way back to the beginning and punish the bully again, or do you tell the mentally disabled person to stop taking tests that they can't complete adequately? |

| I'm not saying suicide is okay. It's not okay. And I agree with some of you that no matter how bad it gets, people should NOT choose the easy way out and just kill themselves. I know that. I didn't write this poem to tell people about suicide, really. I just have a friend who is being bullied right now, and she doesn't know where to go to. So I wrote this poem for the school newspaper. This poem is just to try and save the kids in my school from all the emotional trauma. That is all. |

| How could she not know where to go? At every school I've been to there have been huge campaigns for stopping bullying, seeing your counselor, etc. to the point of it being rather annoying. Maybe that's only in my area, but I find that unlikely. |

| She HAS gone to the counselor. Several times, in fact. The counselor gave the bullies a few detentions, and some reprimands, and every time it's just made the bullies worse. The only time the police were involved was when she was beat up by someone who got detention for bullying. That girl was expelled. She's very tiny, and quiet, so no one ever listens to her, and the people in school who claim to oppose bullying don't actually try to help except to tell her it will get better. Her parents won't get involved unless it's physical harm because they tell it that it's normal in high school. |

You think I haven't gotten involved? I've gotten my fair share of black eyes and bloody noses from trying to stand up for her. And yes, sometimes I go to the counselor, but she's not much of a help, usually. I know that my friend would never commit suicide, I would never forgive her and she won't let herself get that depressed, but I know it's getting to be to the point where she won't even do anything because she feels that no one cares about her.
Where I live, police are involved if the kids threaten or hurt another kid. We just don't have any proof of threatening people, so we can't do anything with that. but usually the kids won't hurt her if she just doesn't say anything to any adults, which is why she hasn't stepped up for herself as much as she should be.
Also, I know that it will get better eventually, but I want it to get better NOW so I don't have to see my friend suffer. After about a year and a half of this, the question isn't if it's going to get better anymore, now the question is when it will get better. |

| I know. She tries, but it's hard when they won't stop following you. Especially at lunch, or on the bus, or even after school. Some people spray painted graffiti on her house about "No one likes you" or "go kill yourself" and things like that, but her parents found out who did it and flipped out. It's not very easy to stay away from people who are out to get you. |

"Tell the school."
I'm pretty sure going to the counselor would count as telling the school.
And in response to earlier debates, it would be the bully's fault.
Its a matter of cause and effect. It is the person's fault for taking their life, yes. But its also the fault of the bully.
Because if you take the bully out of the equation, things would never occur the way they did.
Unless death truly is planned, and you would go out no matter what you did. |
