ZolarKeth and I announced some big news at the end of the Q&A session we held a few days ago. Now it's time that I publicly announce the next big thing for Apocalypse Rising!
I am currently in the process of making a new map for Apocalypse Rising, but even better, the new map may seem somewhat familiar to veteran players of Apoc. The three main cities will be Hark, Vernal, and Kin.
In addition to the classic names of the original map, this map is going to contain everything that Apoc has really been lacking. We call this map, "Kin Reimagined" as it will become everything that we wanted the original map to be.
[THE CHANGES]
The old Kin map was 5,120 x 5,120 studs in length and width. That's 10 x 10 (512 stud) baseplates. The Kin Reimagined map will be 7,186 x 7,186 studs in size. That's 14 x 14 baseplates. The current Amend map is actually 8,192 x 8,192 studs in size. (16 x 16 baseplates) So, the new map will be slightly smaller than the current map. But don't be disappointed, I have much more to explain!
After looking over the massive size of the Amend map, I realized how repetitive it is. John Shedletsky once said in an email that most of the map was "basically empty space of no interest, since they don't spawn high-end loot." It's true. There are 18 small towns other than the three main cities. Only a couple of these towns actually spawn military loot, and for all of the rest, nothing special. Players just don't visit these useless towns. They only time they are visited is when a player runs into them, on their way to the Military Airfield or the Forest.
The Kin Reimagined map does NOT follow the philosophy that only certain areas should spawn military loot. Instead of having a handful of large military areas, this map will be covered in smaller military areas. Things like military barricades and tents will be scattered across the entire map, and almost every area will spawn the same amount of military loot as the next. The Military have no permanent presence here. That's right, there are no military Airfields or bunkers. No longer will a single person be able to sit on top of the control tower and effectively defend the entire airfield!
The Kin Reimagined map will have three main cities, but only five smaller towns. (Not 18) With the bricks I save by doing this, I am making two major changes:
#1 There will be about 12 unique areas separate from the towns and cities. Places like a Radio Station, a Prison, a Factory, and a Mansion are only a few of the many unique structures we want the map to include. Every one of these places will be balanced to affect gameplay in different ways. The Prison, for example, will feature walls, guard towers, and plenty of holes that need patched up with building materials. It is a massive structure, and would only be defendable with a large group of players. The Radio Station features a very tall tower with a platform that makes for a perfect scouting position.
#2 Kin itself has been completely "Reimagined". The CITY is roughly five times the size of Amend, and features a center square with four and five story buildings. (All with roof access) Kin will definitely have the largest concentration of loot and zombies compared to any other location in the map. I guarantee that the military will have a presence there as well, and for this reason Kin will be a destination for many. But the sheer size of Kin will make it impossible for even a small group of players to completely control. It will be a wild card, and one should be weary before entering the city. I expect bandits to be roaming the rooftops in search of helpless survivors below.
Along with the changes above, the Kin Reimagined map will have terrain that can't even be compared to the disgusting tumor hills that the Amend map has now. Vehicles will be able to traverse these new hills, and you will often find structures resting on the top of them.
[GAMEPLAY]
The Kin Reimagined map will be much more explorable than the Amend map. We want players to be less focused on rushing to some military area to get loot, and more focused on discovering the many unique aspects of the map and finding the best areas to build a solid base. We want to start seeing faction wars - the bandits of Kin launching assaults on the well-defended Prison full of survivors.

Sweet.I never recognized this map,but I do watch videos about it.It'd be nice to see some stuff Veteran Players have.

May start playing Apocalypse Rising again with this new map, the old one was not very good. I like the idea of Millitary loot all over, though I hope this doesn't turn into a giant DM.

| Ugh! This is one update that I will cherish the time it doesn't come out yet... I will not like this update because I was getting comfortable with the cities... I know how to get to places by just reading the signs without a map.. Now I might just play Paintball everyday... |

| You don't get it..... THE OLD MAP WAS BORING ALL IT HAD WAS FREAKING HOUSES,AIRFIELD,AND THREE LARGE CITIES WHILLE IN THIS UPDATE THERE WILL BE MANY PLACES THAT WE CAN EXPLORE! |

| @monkeyquestadventure Kin Reimagined is not the "same map" that you played before. The only thing that this new map will have that is the "same" as the original, is the three names of the new cities. That is all. |

It would be nice to keep the old map though, could you have 2 apoc risings and one can be amend map thats not updated and the other kin thanks |
