I'm bringing the subject back. ROTLD is one of the greatest zombie films ever made, if not the best. It even started the joke that zombies eat brains. (If you watch anything else zombie related, they never eat brains.)
It's first two sequels were extremely different. ROTLD 2 was a spoof and had too much humor. It also didn't connect to the ending of ROTLD. ROTLD 3 had the dark elements of the first, but made them too dark. (I liked it.)
4 and 5 were TV Movies with average Romero zombies. Boring.
So bring in a reboot related to the ending of the first.
After the nuke drops, another American town is polluted with Trioxin spores. It's up to the military to find a way to stop it, and up to the town to survive. (Have it take place in the 80s with similar style to the first.)
Or... have a prequel set in 1967 or 1968. Show the Trioxin testing, and the initial breakout only to be contained. Have a young George Romero appear to use this information for his movie, Night of the Living Dead. |

What Max Brooks says about the films is how I feel about them:
"They cheapen zombies, make them silly and campy. They've done for the living dead what the old Batman TV show did for the Dark Knight."
They're good films don't get me wrong, but far from the best within the genre, at least in my opinion.
I would like to see a proper Night of the Living Dead reboot, before seeing one of Return of The Living Dead. |

Return of the Living Dead 3 wasn't campy.
That was dark 90s romance and an excellent example of such.
But I've never thought of them cheapening zombies. Not even the first or goofy second.
Indestructible, intelligent zombies that can understand your pleas for help, but wont reason? Scarier than any other zombie ive seen.
And the scene from the first where Burt cremates himself is heart breakingly sad.
I say save the NOTLD Reboot for when predictable zombies aren't used as much. |

I know you're a huge fan of the film, and I understand that, which is why I won't turn this into an argument because I'm sure we- two huge zombie fans- could argue about this for centuries, but I can't take the films as seriously as I can, with others.
Tarman is still the coolest Zombie ever though, hands down. |

There was a thread where we both agreed on every Romero film having their own universe due to errors in the timeline.
With a reboot I would have it be a separate entry into the Night of the Living Dead universe. Classic Walkers, a group of survivors, and the country setting. Maybe have the group witness the explosion of the car. Something like that.
Other than that I don't have many ideas.
I would totally go and see a reboot of both films though. |

I had an idea while watching NOTLD. Have it be set during daylight and evening, showing the first few hours of infection.
Set it in the diner Ben talked about. Have it where he and a group of survivors try to figure out what's going on. Ben goes into the truck where hes chased by a horde of zombies.
Another survivor or more could get in a car and flea in another direction, or maybe stay at the diner. This gives you the ability for sequels. |

That's a cool idea actually.
With, that being said I can't imagine anyone replacing Duane Jones although Tony Todd did a good job. Maybe a video game could work better? I always wanted a game set within the Romero-verse. |

There is Path to Fiddler's green. =x
I still like the idea of a movie, though. Maybe they could computer generate his face onto another actor? Or recreate his face completely? Might look a little shoddy, but I think if a film like this were to ever be made than by then we'd have the effects to do so.
But a game would be pretty sweet. |

Ah, I forgot about that one. I wanted to play it ages ago, but I can't find a copy of it anywhere.
Maybe. I love the idea of the diner being a center-piece though. And, if it were a video game, you could have it be a hub - of sorts - where fellow survivors stay behind, and where you can place collected supplies.
And, now I'm getting my hopes up. .-. |

| Since NOTLD is public domain I could very easily get the rights to make this one day. |

A Film or a video game?
If the first, then yeah, I'll totally dig it.
You plan on going to film school, right? I hope you make it far. |

Film. I don't have the computer intelligence to make a game. .-.
And ye, film school. Still planning on which ones and how to do what, but that's the main plan. And thanks. |

| You don't have the "computer intelligence" to make a game you have to learn. |

I don't have the computer intelligence to learn.
I wasn't even able to learn Lua, much less the coding needed to make a complex horror survival game. |

I want to make movies, not computer games. |

Can I just add that the best thing about ROTLD was Trash's dance?
Thanks. |
