The debate between whether we should have forced traditional marriage or forced "equal" marriage is ridiculous.
Why can't we have free marriage? Remove the government's power to dictate mirages and let the people choose what they believe marriage is for themselves.

@Taven2
If you don't believe that should be part of marriage, just don't include it.
Free marriages allow you to do whatever you want. No government involvement. |

@cheeser
Well, there is actually a huge YouTube channel who argues that. That we should live in anarchy and everything should be legal.

"Remove the government's power to dictate mirages and let the people choose what they believe marriage is for themselves."
then it becomes tyranny by majority |

>"then it becomes tyranny by majority"
Howso? If my church says traditional, and the church next door says equal, the strife will only be between the two churches. It will not divide the nation.
It only becomes "majority tyranny" if you give them that power. I am saying that the government should not have the power.
Is there majority tyranny over what religion you can have? No. |

Well I don't know about total anarchy. I want there still to be government regulations so I can both
-defy the civil law -And purge the earth of those who I deem immoral by my own jurisdiction
I will be an unrelenting vigilante to seek vengeance upon those who have wrought evil,
like Batman or Rorschach or Richard Simmons |

and whatever church has the most voting churchgoers inherently wins
but maybe i'm misinterpreting your idea of "free marriage"
"It only becomes "majority tyranny" if you give them that power."
which is usually decided by what
ah yes
voting
"I am saying that the government should not have the power."
no
you're saying government on a smaller scale should have that power
"Is there majority tyranny over what religion you can have?"
no, but then which religion has the majority becomes the tyranny |

>"and whatever church has the most voting churchgoers inherently wins"
If you don't like what's preached in your church, go to a different church. If you can't find a church you like at all, start your own church.
>"you're saying government on a smaller scale should have that power"
A church is not "government" because its rules are not enforced. It cannot kill you for not abiding by their principles.
>"no, but then which religion has the majority becomes the tyranny"
Marriage is a religious thing.
I can guarantee you this: if the government had no involvement in marriage, atheists would not care to get married. The only reason they do is because its importance is forced by the government. If the government did not force it, all that's left is religion. Nothing would be left for them, so they would leave it.

sounds reasonable enough
"A church is not "government" because its rules are not enforced."
sometimes they are
"Marriage is a religious thing."
that has societal and economic benefits
"The only reason they do is because its importance is forced by the government."
what do you propose as a replacement for it then
what can you do to provide the marital benefits without marriage |

>"sometimes they are"
But even a minimalist government would rule that a breach of power. That
>"what can you do to provide the marital benefits without marriage"
So you just want marriage so you can get tax breaks? ... ....
And if you're referring to things like "we both own 50%" or whatever, you can still make a social contract. No one's stopping you from making social contracts.
Anyways. In my type of government, taxation would not be a problem, because there would be barely any of it and how much you pay is based on how much of the government you use.
It's hard to explain, so I'll have Peter Schiff do it for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jEEnP7YEQE |

Agreed, Haiku. I also believe that marriage licenses should be abolished. Seriously, why does a person need to go through so much trouble and documents just to kiss someone at a church?

or just the way of the ballot box
churchgoers elect politicians that have their ideas who will implement their policies
"So you just want marriage so you can get tax breaks?"
another benefit of love i guess |

Which can only be implement if you give the government, AKA the politicians, the power to do so.

Why not? It's the philosophy of the Founding Fathers. Watch the Peter Schiff debate I sent you.
He debates minimalist government well. Although, in that video, he's debating it with an anarchist rather than a statist.

"Why not? It's the philosophy of the Founding Fathers."
the founding fathers aren't perfect though
we should make our own philosophies
if we listened to the philosophy of the founding fathers like they were in the constitution slavery would still be legal and women wouldn't be allowed to vote
"He debates minimalist government well. Although, in that video, he's debating it with an anarchist rather than a statist."
i will tomorrow maybe
i'm semi tired right now so it probably make less sense than it would normally |
