The Bible is divided into two sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. A "testament" is defined "a covenant between Man and God." The reason they are divided is because there is an entirely different covenant in the New from the Old.
Jews believe only in the Old Testament. So they do not believe in Jesus or the New Covenant. Only the Old.
It is also important to note that the Old Testament was written in BC times, dating back to several thousand BC, and the New Testament probably starts after 33 AD. So they are written in vastly different times.
But let's look at what the Old Testament says about the New Covenant and Jesus:
- Old Testament: "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a v'irgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." - Isiah 7:14 - New Testament: "Behold, a v'irgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." - Matthew 1:23 (Referencing Jesus)
Not to mention the covenant that Jesus brought about was clearly as described by God himself: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah%2031:31-34&version=KJV
There's a lot more stuff like this, just look at here: http://www.gotquestions.org/Old-Testament-Christ.html
Jesus precisely correlates with the prophesies of the Old Testament. Why do Jews simply disregard all of this?
How can you be a Jew and not be a Christian? |

...The ignorance here is so amazing I won't even bother to explain your fallacies. But as an ex-Jew (I'm now Atheist), I can assuage you that there are indeed fallacies.

>"1. jews do not follow the new testament you dimwit" That was the very basis of my argument.
>"2. the jews use the torah, not the biblical old testament" I explicitly explained that, you know, being the basis of my argument and all.
>"3. you are an idiot" How can one be this freaking stupid? |

@Haiku - An assumption for the weak-minded, a feeble attempt at self-asurrance.

They don't believe it at first. After a few miracles, they start to believe it. On Good Friday, they don't believe it.
(shortest answer I've got) :3 |

It does, it explains the prophesies in much further detail, which all completely correlate with the New Testament. If the Old Testament predicts precisely the New Testament, then it only seems to me that you would have to deny the Old Testament in order to deny the New Testament. |

fun fact: jesus's name is greek for "jeshua", which is aramaic for "joshua"
jesus was named joshua, and his name does not mean anything special.

Anyway, let me inform you that, this whole "bible dividing in two idea" isn't even a Jewish idea. It's a Christian one. The Jewish bible was ADOPTED by the Christians, it was not ADAPTED by the Christians.
The Jewish bible is called the TaNaKh, Ta standing for Torah, Na standing for N'viim which means Prophets, and Kh for Ktvuvim which means Writings. The Jewish bible is separated into three sections, one called Torah, one called Prophets, and one called Writings.
The Torah is supposedly composed of "writings that came from God's mouth himself." Jews believe that this section was handed down to Moses on Mount Sinai,
Prophets is supposedly composed of "descriptions of the words of God's prophets, as he communed with them." Self-explanatory.
Writings is composed of poems and stories that were written by large Jewish figures in immediate post-biblical times.
That is the ENTIRETY of the Jewish bible, the TaNaKh. When the Christians came along and separated them into the "Old Testament" and "New Testament," this did not affect the Jews at all. They TOOK the Jewish TaNaKh, renamed it the Old Testament, and added what they call the New Testament. The Jews did not change.
