I've seen a new mass of newcomers recently, and I wanna help you guys and gals out.
1) Don't roleplay with asterisks (*) It annoys the hell out of the experienced RP'ers, and the veteran RP'ers (Both very different people). By roleplaying with asterisks, I mean this: *eats cookie*. Instead, say: "I eat a cookie." It looks much cleaner, more professional, and you won't piss off anybody.
2) When making an RP, try to include a plot, rules, and a Character Sheet. These three things are essential to 99% of RPs. Here's a quick description of each: Plot: Storyline, background, lore, history, etc. Rules: Pretty straightforward, I think. Character Sheet: The thing people copy and paste to make their character(s), town, civilization, etc.
3) When making an RP, try to keep it original. Again, at least half of the veteran and experienced RP'ers get pissed off at RPs that are unoriginal. If you want to base your RP off of a book, game, movie, show, etc., change something. Maybe change the storyline. Maybe make it a spinoff. Maybe make some new characters up.
4) Please try to recognize the difference between Trolls/Flamers and Constructive Criticism. It always annoys me when someone says, "Uh, there's no plot. This isn't an RP without a plot. We have nothing to go on, idiot." and the OP replies, "Shut up. If you don't like my RP, leave." That person was trying to help you! They're reminding you that you need a plot! You're actually the Flamer when you reply with such a response.
Trolls/Flamers will be obvious. Believe me. When someone says "Ahaha, stupid newbie. This RP sucks.", you'll know it's a troll.
But here's another example. When someone says, "This RP is terrible because it's unoriginal, generic, overused, etc.", they, again, are trying to help you. Change something with the RP, as I said in Tip #3.
Thanks for reading (Thought I feel most of you will read this "Thanks" message before reading the first paragraph. Oh well.)

@plot being the storyline n such i disagree the plot is the sequence of events that come up to make the climax, the conflict, and eventually the resolution

SOMEONE HAS BEEN TAKING CREATIVE WRITING CLASSES. THANK YOU.
No, you got it wrong. The sequence of the events is the conclusion btw. It's a storyline in all the events in a story or as such. The plot is the basic layout of the story. In fiction a plot or storyline is all the events in a story, particularly towards the achievement of some particular artistic or emotional effect. In other words it's what mostly happened in the story. Such as the mood, characters, setting, and conflicts occurring in a story.

The plot is also what quasar said.
Basically what quasar said is the legitimate definition.
I gave examples.
End of argument.

Good advice....
I despise that when you give advice you get a a ton of love but when I give advice I get attacked. Why RP, why?

@indy; If you thought about it, I meant this to be for newcomers to RP'ing. Not the forum itself. There are a handful of people here who RP'd on other sites, thus gaining experience, and are not newbies to RP'ing.

| Well, this is kind of awkward now that I see it was just a coincidence to be on the same day, but posted last year. |

Was it a coincidence... Or was it a necro-bump?
