By game mechanic, I mean a games way of deciding how many of each point to give you for leveling up (Pokemon) or how it determines how much damage an attack will do. That sort of thing. The most impressive I've seen would be the Pokémon R.N.G (Random number generator). It was only made abusable by loads of research, and now it's been exposed, I can see its complexity. I can't tell you all about it, there's enough there to write a book about it. So, seen any impressive mechanics in a game? |

| Not exactly what you described, but the parry/riposte system in the Souls games is pretty neat. |
