Dark Souls if you like challenge in even what would be the easiest area of the game. Fallout if you like the kind of wastelands depressing feel in a game. Fallout is also pretty decent, better than Skyrim.

Fallout
You'll fanboy out on it, considering how you do BO2.

Just looked it up, Dark Souls is an action open world role playing game. Fallout is an open world role playing game. The only real difference is that Dark Souls has enemies at literally every turn and more melee combat than Fallout does.

Dark SOuls if you care about being hardcore. Fallout if you want to be considered less casual but not make the big jump. Dark Souls is more realism so I guess it's considered more hardcore I'm just going by the gamer level chart imp linked us to.

Dark Souls is the best game I have ever played. I have maybe 59 hours in Fallout 3, but 109 hours in Dark Souls. I'm nowhere even close to being done with the game, actually.
JUST GO WITH DARK SOULS.
YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT |

| About the notorious difficulty: If you aren't pants-on-head retarded, have an attention span longer than a goldfish, and even a tiny bit of patience, you can get through Dark Souls. |

Fallout is the best game I have ever played. I have played maybe no hours of Dark Souls, but 300 hours in Fallout 3. I'm nowhere even close to being (well, I still have a lot of things I can do, but I'm finished with the game) done with the game, actually.
JUST GO WITH FALLOUT 3 OR NEW VEGAS
YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT

@Over
Also small amounts of timing and accuracy are required here and there. You have a microscopic window of time to parry then riposte in Dark Souls.

I don't know. OT uses fancy symbols to sneak Fat Uncles Can't Kiss through. Read the first letter of each word.

Alright, might as well do a comparison so you can choose what you want to buy:
Fallout: -RPG with some FPS elements (less noticible in FO3, more in F:NV)
-Post-apocalyptic 50's setting
-Large open world, and you can kill pretty much anyone.
-You can be good, bad, in a moral grey area, etc.
-Since this is a post-apocalyptic game, your items will rarely be in its best condiition. Ammo is also a concern. Because of this, you switch guns frequently.
-Combat in FO3 is mainly about using VATS (turning real-time to turn-based), though you can still go real-time. Combat in F:NV is mainly about aiming and shooting. Stats > Equipment > Skill
-Story is usually told by the characters and advertisements.
-Trade is done with bartering. Each item is worth a certain amount of caps, the main currency, so you can do some complex bartering.
-Enemies are usually randomly placed.
-I have never beaten Fallout 3/NV, but I think it lets you keep roaming around the world.
Dark Souls: -Action-RPG with a high difficulty.
-Very dark medieval fantasy setting.
-Linear open world. For the first half of the game, you can go wherever you want, but you will probably forced to turn back from either really difficult enemies or a key being needed. For the second half (after Anor Londo and the notorious Ornstein & Smough fight), the game becomes open world and you can go ANYWHERE.
-You are always in a moral grey area. You fight for what you think is right, but you are just destroying entire families, ruining lives, and backstab people who helped you just because you liked their sword. You are a chosen undead and are doing some good, too, but the outcome is always the same.
-You usually start with a basic weapon like a dagger, spear, longsword, etc and upgrade it frequently to turn it into a better weapon, such as the Greatsword of Artorias or Quelaag's Furysword. You can also find unique weapons that can be only slightly upgraded.
-The combat is some of the best I have ever seen. Pretty much everyone (including you) die in 2-3 hits. That means you will have to constantly block and dodge attacks. You need to mix in melee combos with spells, archery, and other items. Skill > Equipment > Stats, as is obvious over here: http://youtu.be/A36YSO00ZfI http://youtu.be/fmZkcJkXtEY
-The story is very subtly told by the environment around you. You are required to put the pieces together to figure out the story. It's also sometimes told through the few characters that won't kill you.
-Enemies are in the same spot every time, and if you die or return to a bonfire, they respawn.
-Trade is done by souls, which you automatically gain from killing enemies (no looting needed). Souls are also your experience.
-When you beat the game, you are immediately thrown into New Game+. You retain all your items, but the difficulty is very greatly increased. Beat the game again? New Game+2, and so on until New Game +7. |

also, about how to bypass the filter, copy + paste what I post on the next line, (even if it looks blank): I recommend saving it in notepad. |

Only with Broken Steel in FO3, but you can't do it in NV. |

| I'd recommend Fallout on PC, but I'm assuming you'll play on consoles in which case I'll say you go with Dark Souls. |
