What is the meaning...
"[TRAIN] Training - Link" huh, what's the point in repeating yourself?
Why don't you just put "Training" and allow them to read? They should read all the shouts anyway. If they don't read all shouts, you don't want them in your group.
What's the point in them? Discuss. |

In my opinion, they simply allow the shouts to look more organised. Along with this, it is able to give members a quick insight into what the shout is about as '[TRAIN]' stands out more than 'hosting a training at placeLinkHere'

I understand the first reason, looking organized - it does.
But, maybe it does stand out more. But if you have members that are only interested in the shout it involves them, you don't want them at your events anyway. |

| What CJ said and it informs the members on what is happening in the shout without them reading the whole shout. |

Being a HR in various clans throughout the last 4 and half years, I have seen many systems come and go over time. Having shout tags helps keeps everything organised, as you can just read one word and instantly know what the shout is about, rather than needing to read an entire shout.

Essentially, I do understand what you're saying. Yet, lets say someone is looking our for an event which was to be hosted sometime that day - They could simply look out for '[EVENT]' instead of having to read the whole shout. Yet, on the other hand this does encourage laziness within members.

Shout tags are awkward for me...
Raid Here: [ link ] -SunTzu8
[RAID] Raid here: [ link ] -SunTzu8
Typically,
Raid Here: [ link ] Wear your uniform. -SunTzu8
Shout tabs can end up being redundant, and they do use precious characters. Anyway, other clans seem to use them, for whatever reasons. I don't see a solid point in it, so I don't think I'll use them. I usually require that you state your name or use a signature, but with the audit log, there's no need for it. (All late shouts on a player's feed add the name of the shouter too).

Hmm...
Yeah, the whole reading what applies to you thing isn't a very convincing statement for me. (You can use them, and you can support your members neglecting many shouts, but I think about it differently).
I'd rather have every member read every shout. Many shouts contain important news and updates. If it's harder for them to do otherwise, I'll be happier.
Anyway, to each its own.

Yeah, I'm seeing why some of you used now. I just always thought it was pretty pointless.
Personally, I would not use myself. But like CJ said, there are advantages and disadvantages.
Good discussion. |
