Maybe an ISRP set in a zombie apocalypse...where you play as a "smart" zombie?
The goal of the game varies depending on what the character wants to do.
"Paths":
Overlord:
The player able to direct other undead as if he/she were a hive mind, but you can only cause them to do basic actions. [They're still stupid, they can't pick up guns or anything.] The goal of this path is to destroy the military presence in the area, along with any survivor havens.
Seeker:
The player attempts to find answers and cure his/herself. The player has more free movement, but doesn't have any lackeys to help fight hostile humans.
Learner:
The player will wake up, devoid of any memory. Instead of satisfying their hunger, they will wander about trying to discover tidbits of their past life, or learn about the pre-apocalyptic world.
Any suggestions or ideas? |

Yes. Yes. Like Ugh That film where the zombies eat brainzies then gain the memories? Like self aware zombies? Eating brains would allow you to regain that persons memories, and only memories they could remember. |

They do.
They get the special power of intelligence.
And nothing else. |

| I won't rip off of Warm Bodies or whatever. Besides, getting someone's memories by eating their brains makes no sense :I |

| These zombies regain thought by seeing, touching and hearing things from their past existence that may spark memories. |

| Or like over time the infection inside of you starts to decrease and you can overcome your zombification? |

The zombie infection isn't a common cold that you can just wait out. |

@Quil
Or at least, usually. Allow me to bring up something similar but not quite the same; Jiang Shi.
I do believe that they could bite someone and turn someone into a Jiang Shi for an amount of time I don't remember. Feel free to say if this is wrong.
So in theory, it could work. |

| Well I mean like if you're choosing Overlord, the more you learn and gain experience from what you're doing along your path, the more you can ware out the infection? |

Well if you think about it zombies in all don't make sense.
Anyway, the disease is called Jarkata-Tokyo infection. Originated from Tokyo carried to US and UK via Tourism and has these symptomns
Hour 1 Irritation of the bite, scratching happens often during this hour and 3 after until
Hour 4 Headaches start to kick in, uselessness of the wound area
Continues til
Hour 8 Veins start looking menacingly green, headaches much more common and scratching unbearable
Til Hour 13 Blood starts to turn green, little to no white cells left after green blood becomes corrosive
Til
Hour 17 Brain cells damaged, brain becomes soft and seizures are induced
Hour 21 Unconsciousness, no motor functions remaining and lungs, brain and heart stop functioning. Brain will sometimes work in a 1 in a million chance and that is how the three paths worked
Hour 23 Complete and utter death
Hour 24 Reanimation.

If you're sick, and you read a book, you can get smarter, but you won't cure your sickness.
The player can only become more human in the form of their thoughts. You could fully remember your past life, but that won't change your zombie status. You'll still look like a zombie, and still have their basic instincts. |

@Quillboar Wait when you find your past life, do you have to go to special landmarks you've visited? |

That can be one of the ways. Seeing zombies/humans you once knew can help as well. |

I thought of making a roleplay where you can control zombies but then Warm Bodies came out then I didn't bother because I would have been accused of copying it.
I do actually wanna see it though because I have always wondered how a zombie actually thinks. |
