Dear Roblox administrators,
if you are reading this you most likely viewed my previous thread on removing language filters. As many of you think about this thought you think about users screaming foul language at each other. But that is not why I want this idea to be published. Roblox has a limited chat ability which has several effects. I have had some time when I have accidentally spelt shirt wrong and hello wrong and it has lead to ban/warning. And I know I am not the only one. I have developed some sort of fear of chatting now. These filters can be bypassed but it is against the rules. However if you are child/teen you most likely aren't fully matured and you will "rage" and yell the same things back. As of today the only language I see Robloxians saying to each other is, "noob". Which drives me crazy! since noob is defining a new user to an online activity. Noob has been used to define someone has non-intelligent. I feel the reason why Robloxians are constantly saying noob is because it's the only offensive thing which isn't filtered. Another problem with the limited chat ability is that it takes away our First amendment.
I am aware however that rules on computer games do not apply to reality but freedom of speech is pretty important if you ask me. This feature of no filters will bring back several older Robloxians who are older in age. Which I think is great! the more users the better! not to mention this will put a lot more time for moderators to focus on more things then just chat logs. Perhaps quicker image moderation? or even more time for moderators to view games and make sure they are age appropriate for our users. My friends are constantly telling me that they no longer like Roblox because it is to childish. Maybe this could be an "Age Up" update. This update will teach users to use their voice and know that their voice matters. I am going to close this essay up now. I hope I didn't get off-topic haha. I didn't really proofread this so please admins tell me how I did! Ia appreciate your time in reading this!

If you do not agree with this 100% please tell me. I strongly feel this idea is great and maybe can even be improved!

The first amendment does say we have free speech. Like other countries, we just have consequences to what we say.

(I don't agree that maturity has anything to do with swearing.)

Don't really agree. Also, ROBLOX doesn't have a First Amendment. There are more intellectual words you could use instead of walking around cursing, therefore, I don't agree. --Rowan

(When I say "we," I mean the Americans under the first amendment in our Constitution.)

We give up our first amendment rights and say that we acknowledge that we will be punished for whatever we say by accepting to the terms and conditions when joining ROBLOX.

Also, I do not consider this an essay. There was absolutely no thesis statement, and your suggestion seems to be running around in circles by, pretty much, saying the same thing over and over again.

@Mikkel: No offence, but ROBLOXians aren't the same as Americans and the same laws don't apply to ROBLOX. ROBLOX has a different set of rules and standards than the American constitution, therefore, you cannot compare these two things and put them in a similar basis category. They are two totally different worlds in this case.

@ace

No matter what, we all have the freedom of speech. (There's not too much that can hinder our general voice.) ROBLOX is under American law, so obviously you can't say we give up a law on an American-made site.

We just have consequences to what we say. If you mention something that the US Government considers a threat, then yes, there may be consequences to what you've said. That doesn't mean people cannot physically say it.

@rowan

Don't tell that to me, tell that to the one who made the essay. I was only replying to him with America's first amendment because HE applied that to his own address.

ROBLOX is on American soil. (figuratively) As long as our Constitution is enforced, it applies to everywhere (in America.)

@Ace I know, I didn't put much of my knowledge into this. I absolutely agree with you. I basically just wanted to state my perspective of this.

@Mikkel:

Ah, but, technically, we are, and we do give up this right in many situations. I cannot go to my school and call everyone various vulgarities, and I will get punished for it if I do, even if I say that I am expressing my first amendment right.

Under the ROBLOX Terms of Service, it says:
4. All user content and communications on the ROBLOX site may be filtered and monitored... but ROBLOX and its designees shall have the right in their sole discretion to reject or remove any content that is available via the site. So that everyone has a good time, you understand and agree that you will not post or send through the site any words, images or links containing or relating to:

profanity, obscenities ("swear words"), sexual content (express or implied, including inappropriate acts with or by your pets for "real" or in role play)
attacks, comments, or opinions about other people or things that slander, defame, threaten, insult or harass another person...
...
other information that ROBLOX deems, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate for this site

BEWARE: If you do any of the above we may freeze your account permanently without prior notice.

So, in theory, we are VOLUNTARILY giving up some rights to freedom of speech by accepting these conditions when we sign up for an account on ROBLOX.

You are using the 1st amendment quite blatantly. In a private situation, such as ROBLOX, the owner has the rights to enforce their own rules, that may or may not override the 1st amendment. 2nd, while ROBLOX is an American company, that doesn't mean the 1st amendment applies to it.

As for my thesis statement:

Removing chat filters on Roblox will allow users to easily express themselves and increase the amount of users on Roblox.

Alright, let's be done with this:

--

"As many of you think about this thought you think about users screaming foul language at each other. But that is not why I want this idea to be published."

If you are going to suggest something while acknowledging such a flaw in the idea, you should have the decency of at least playing down the flaw or cleaning it up overall.
It's just good manners.

--

"Roblox has a limited chat ability which has several effects. I have had some time when I have accidentally spelt shirt wrong and hello wrong and it has lead to ban/warning."

If you feel you have been unfairly banned, please take it up with the site. That's why we have a (somewhat) of an appeal system.

--

"I have developed some sort of fear of chatting now."

Well, if you cannot at least keep your statements mild and your spelling on-par then I really think that's your own fault.
ROBLOX's filters aren't hardly as restricted as you make them out to be

--

"These filters can be bypassed but it is against the rules. However if you are child/teen you most likely aren't fully matured and you will "rage" and yell the same things back."

I didn't understand that but I have a feeling it was illogical.

--

"As of today the only language I see Robloxians saying to each other is, "noob"."

Then, I'm sorry to inform you, you've been living under a proverbial ROBLOX rock. I've been lots of colourful insults displayed on the site.

--

"Which drives me crazy! since noob is defining a new user to an online activity. Noob has been used to define someone has non-intelligent."

No, noob actually means idiot. It comes fro Mortal Kombat II.
It's an unfortunate coincidence that newb and noob sound the same.

--

"I feel the reason why Robloxians are constantly saying noob is because it's the only offensive thing which isn't filtered."

lol idiot.

(I'm not sure if its irony or what but yeah, there it is)

--

"This feature of no filters will bring back several older Robloxians who are older in age. Which I think is great! the more users the better!"

My, my, that's a weighted assumption for sure.

--

"not to mention this will put a lot more time for moderators to focus on more things then just chat logs."

You mean, less monitoring of chat logs? Leaving more room for verbal bullying IN A PROPOSED FILTER-LESS SOCIETY? Good gracious, man.

--

"My friends are constantly telling me that they no longer like Roblox because it is to childish. Maybe this could be an "Age Up" update. This update will teach users to use their voice and know that their voice matters."

Really? Because all I predict is the State of OT multiplying in awfulness and users leaving because of the more lethal than ever userbase.

I'll go ahead and say "No" because as much as I support freedom of speech, I don't want 9 year olds thinking they're cool because they learned swear words in an online game.

Forgive me if I misunderstood (since this sounds like such an outrageous idea); I don't have much time to type this, so I had to speed though, and I am an auditory leaner, so I can not read faster than about 5 words per second without really pusing it... Anyway, I digress...
So... No chat filter for ROBLOX? That's not a good idea at all... If you had no filters, there would be profanity everywhere in games and in the comments and walls of items and groups. Faster Image moderation is not an important issue. An important issue is, for example, fixing the problem where Studio crashes whenever I try to do anything in it at all...
This wouldn't bring back anyone, unless all they wanted to play the game for was to swear at kids. In fact, ROBLOX would lose players, since parents of players and the players themselves will lose interest and get quickly tired of ROBLOX if there was common inappropriate language.
If you are taking about just the comments of items, well, here's a fact for you: The comments of items on games are not searched through by moderators, but they are automatically reported with a chat filter that requires no employees at ROBLOX to run, just like the in-game chat system. Going through all the comments in ROBLOX as they come is extremely unrealistic. This wouldn't cut down on employee work at all, and would not be able to make anything faster. Things that are fast enough as they are. Shirts and pants' uploading speed taking a few minutes fewer is not a good enough trade-off to accepting profanity and turning ROBLOX into a T-rated game that isn't designed primarily for teens, but rather for users of all ages.
