You can get a computer as good as any Alienware -- which is made by Dell by the way, a company that is notorious for their cheaper computers for the average or blow average family -- if you just get a custom made one, except for half the cost.
Spend the same, and you'll be running Planetside with much greater performance and for a longer time, depending on the hardware you choose.

@OP
Laptop or Desktop
What specs?
I have an M14x R2 and I'm loving it.
I can play skyrim on Max FPS with a ton of mods, and currently I think I'm playing PS2 on medium settings. I don't try raising it, It's fine how it looks right now for me.
I could only play Crysis 3 on lowest settings, still looked beautiful, and day it comes out NVIDIA updates driver -_-.

@jammy
i find your statement very hard to believe.
I also own Empire at War, great game, but you must have screwed something up.
I played empire at war on max settings on my old old computer on max settings with 2gb of ram and a 2.1 GHZ processor*
*Not confirmed, it was lower than 2.5, computer stowed away in attic.
However, one "problem" I encounter with my Alienware is when I turn my computer on, the first game I have to load is Skyrim. When I start it, it is all glitchy and the screen turns pink then it fixes and is at max FPS. Dunno what it is, but I don't mind spending two minutes every time I turn it on for a gaming session to fix it.

@Sun
Yes you can. I have an alienware because I needed a laptop, and I wanted to game.
Best of both worlds for me, I suppose.

@Slayer.
I got one of their laptops, and I'm enjoying it.
I agree you could build a better desktop from scratch.
Unsure if you can even build your own laptop.

I wanted a laptop for transportation reasons.
When I go away, I want to be able to have my laptop with me.
I'm not going to lug away an entire desktop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse for a 2 week trip.
It works for my setup, and my alienware plays the games I want.
All I hope is it can run Far Cry 3 on max settings, rented it for XBOX at a Redbox.
That's the most fun I've had with a game in awhile.
