They say everything is going to be okay, but I don't believe that. I think we'll always live in this world of misery and hurt. In a world where little children are torn away from their mothers. In a world where nothing will ever be the same, and maybe even get worse.
They're monsters, those Trans. They roam the world in large groups like an army, killing people who they think is in wrong. Everyone calls them Trans, but they're name is actually Transfigures. They transfigure your beliefs and love.
All I know is I have to get my mother back.
Chapter One
I don't know what to do, or how to do it. My mind is blank. I stare at the pile of snow, jerking on my knees, and dig away frantically with my bare hands. Snow lodges itself under my nails, freezing my fingers. Every now and then I hit a rock and a sharp pain bolts through my hand. Finally my fingers grasp a small, cold hand. I dig more, uncovering the girl's body. I drag her out of the snow. Poor girl, she seems to be only seven. But there's a chance I can save her, this is what I do. I find people- wounded, hungry, thirsty, cold- all sorts of people and cure them. I'm raising my own little army.
I pick her up and swiftly run towards my cave. Ducking behind some bushes and pushing back some low tree branches, I wiggle inside the cave's small opening. Using some small little flowers, I throw them onto my hungry fire. I set the girl down beside it, scrambling around for my blanket. Finding it over my supply pile, I go back to the girl and wrap the blanket around her, laying her down on the ground. I sit there, watching. What about if I didn't save her? What if her mother is out there somewhere, calling out for her long lost baby girl? Was her mother about to find her, but I moved her? I start to panic, as I always do. I never end up finding any child's mothers. Except for one special boy I hate to bring up.
Then I see her chest slowly and softly rise. Pride surges through me and she lets out a sigh. Motivated by that, I run to my supplies and get a hand-crafted rock pan and a can of soup broth. I pick up two long, sturdy sticks with single forked sides. I pick another up another long stick. Then I put the sling-shot-like sticks on either side of the fire. I place the third stick on them, resting either end between the forked sides. Opening the soup can with my knife, I smile to myself. It's great to do what I do.
I take my worn piece of small rope and tie it around the bottom of the circular pan, and the other around the stick above the fire. I pour the soup carefully into the thin pan. I carved the pan like that on purpose, so it didn't break the sticks. Tomorrow I'll get sturdier ones, maybe even tree stumps to manage a heavier pan. And I could weave some vines together to make a better string. I could even just find a plump vine to use.
I watch the broth sluggishly cook. It's not fast enough, I think impatiently. Soon it finishes though, and I take the pan off of the fire. I wait for it to cool a bit then tip the soup into the girl's mouth. She stirs, then wolfs it down. She then shivers and sits up warily.
“Mummy? Where's my mum?” The girl quietly says. I tenderly stroke her blonde hair. “I want Mum!” She starts crying, and I wipe the tears of her pale cheeks.
“It's fine, we'll find your mother.” I say soothingly, taking her head and resting it on my lap. I braid her hair. She stayed quiet for a long time until I asked, “What's your name?” She seemed to hesitate before answering.
“Emmery Jaynes.” She whispered quietly. Emmery... Where have I heard that name before? Then the flashbacks came.
“Mummy! I made a new friend! Her name is Rosella, isn't she pretty?” The girl exclaimed. The girl's mom smiled gently.
“Yes, she is, Emmery. Let's go home now.” The mother said and the girl beamed before setting off. The girl's voice carried over.
“I can't wait to see Rosella at school tomorrow! She's my buddy, she helps me learn!” Th-
I came back to reality. “Emmery?” I said quietly, and she looked up at me for the first time. Her eyes widened.
“Rosella!” She cried out, turning around and hugging me. She had grown, the last time I saw her she was barely five. I smiled and hugged her back. “Rosella my brother is still out there!” She exclaimed. I never considered....
“What does he look like?” I asked her. Emmery hesitated, eyebrows knitted together in concentration.
“Tall, skinny. Brown hair, tan I guess.” She said. I nod and stood.
“Warm up by the fire, I'll fetch your brother.” I say and she nods back. I make my way back outside. How in the world to find this boy? ----------------
I would've posted this on RP forum but they would've whined it's not a story. Please give me your feedback. |
