You live in a world forgotten by angels for thousands of years. A world of martial prowess, and a world of magical exploits. While the world is not one of peace, it is far from one of eternal strife. At least, it didn't used to be...
A few weeks ago, the skies turned a scarlet red and monstrous aberrations crawled forth from the nearby sea. In the time since, these monsters--demons as you've heard them call--have pillaged and murdered through the land, and you've heard from other survivors of this apocalypse that the entire world is long-gone. People say that this is the coming of Hell, through a some gateway far out in the ocean...
But for now, you must find how to survive this world before worrying about finding out how it became this way.
~ STATISTICS ~
~Hunger: Measured in percents. At high hunger, your health rapidly decreases. This statistic raises over time at an unspecific rate (Less quickly than thirst). Will raise more quickly when exposed to heat/cold or when performing physical activity. Can be lowered by eating.
~Thirst: Measured in percents. At high thirst, your health rapidly decreases. This statistic raises over time at an unspecific rate. Will raise more quickly when exposed to heat or when performing physical activity. Can be lowered by drinking.
~Energy: Measured in percents. At low energy your physical capability is severely hindered, and at 0% energy you fall unconscious. This statistic lowers over time, and lowers more quickly in response to physical activity or heat exposure. Can be raised by resting/sleeping, although certain items and effects (like some sorts of potions or effects) can give temporary energy, such as giving you something like +5 energy for an hour, but will subtract 8 energy when it ends (leaving you with -3 net energy from the effect).
~Health: Measured in percents. At low health your physical capability is severely hindered, and at 0% health you die. This statistic lowers in reaction to other events. Being attacked, getting sick, being cut, being exposed to the cold, overloading on Angelblood, starving... all of these and many other events can cause your health to decrease. Will raise itself back up over time. Certain actions can assist you in losing less health. Example: Bandaging a wound to stem bleeding will make you lose less health from the bleeding. Example: Drinking a health potion will give you back your health rather quickly. It will also restore some thirst!
~Angelblood: Measured in abu (Angelblood Units). The more of it you have, the faster it'll build up. At very high amounts (depending on size of character) could cause serious health issues. Is used in the casting of most spells. Different spells cost different amounts of Angelblood.
~Weight being carried: As a general rule of thumb, your weight being carried converted to a percent is your chance of losing double energy. Stronger characters have this chance made lower. Example: Carrying forty pounds of equipment would give you a 40% chance to lose double energy when energy is lost.
~Durability: Many items have a percent durability. The more you use the item, the more durability it loses. At low durability, items become less effective or useless. Example: A sword would start at 100% durability, but as you use it slowly decrease. At low durability (like 20%) it could be less damaging and possibly even break!
~Item uses: Many items have a limited number of uses. Example: A ring of fireball may only have 20 uses. After using it 20 times, it will no longer function!
~Sicknesses (and other similar status conditions) comes in many shapes and sizes. Most will decrease your health and possibly drain your energy/hunger/thirst more quickly. They may have specific side-effects, and vary in duration/way to cure.
~ YOU ~ Who were and are you? A farmboy, an apprentice mage, a caravan trader? Are you tall? Strong? A man or woman...? How old are you? Your choice of backstory could effect what you start with or how you start, and your physical description could effect interactions you have with the world and others.
Toss me a description (and name!), and I'll toss you a scene with choices to make. |

| I am... was, lord Ednes, the planned heir for the house Essrague. I was never a particularily strong man, rather tall and a bit lanky, to be honest, with a back slightly bent from scribing, and the slightest limp in my step from a childhood incident. I am twenty four years of age. |

Hunger: 35% Thirst: 30% Energy: 90% Health: 100% Angelblood: 50abu (Minor sickness at 200)
Time: Seems to be about noon.
SPELLS YOU POSSESS While you never were particularly attentive as a child, you do remember a few things from your childhood mentor. -Inflict Pain: 10-40abu, depending on charge given to the spell. Causes pain with no physical damage to those hit. Operates as a sort of magic bomb created in the hand, that explodes upon impact with something in a radius equal to three inches per abu spent. -Chilling Aura: 1-3 abu per second, depending on charge given to the spell. Causes frost energy to surge from your body in an area equal to the spell's charge in feet times 2.5. Afflicted targets will slow down as a result of the effect! -Minor mending: 20abu, will heal target for random amount of health (5-10%) -Slowfall: 30abu, will severely decrease your weight and cause you to take minor-to-no damage from falling! Lasts 20 seconds (easily refreshed with more abu)
You shut the door behind you as quietly as possible. Another empty house. You're not quite starving, but you're not exactly well-fed; at least, from what you're used to. Used to a life of extravagance and ease, this sudden hardship is tough on you. Your servants grabbing what they could and escaping quickly left your own home with very little food in it, and you blew through that fast enough. So here you are, Heir of Essrague, scavenging food from a ruined city you planned to own eventually.
You're fairly hungry, and are starting to wish you remembered conjuration...
The street you're on is in the residential part of the small city-state. The business side is more occupied with bandits and possibly demons than here.
A. Search the next house. Might get lucky? B. This area's hopeless, head towards business side of town. C. Head out of the city, try your luck with surrounding forest. D. Look around harder. |

You decided to persist with your scavenging, moving into the next house...
And the next...
And the next...
At about the seventh house, you finally find something worthwhile! Maybe. It's a locked icebox. You don't know if there's anything in it, but based on the fact it's locked you can reason no one has gotten into it.
A. Try to brute-force it open! B. Search the house for a key! C. Move onto the next house. D. Shake it, see if something is in it? |

| I think about searching the house for a key, but decide that I would probably not be able to find it, if it is yet unopened. I decided to D, shake it, to determine if whatever is inside, or not inside, can still be used if I attempted to force it open. |

You scour the house, searching for SOME sort of key. Fortune seems to smile upon you, as you come upon a jewelry box. The pathetic peasant who owned this house wasn't the richest fellow it seems--the box just contains a silver key and a bronze ring with... some runes on it?

You're no magic expert (Regret continues to build) but you recognise a few of the runes inscribed. Something about fire, about... beam you want to say, and one rune disconnected from the others is a number. 17.
Huh.
A. Equip it and leave. B. Equip it, get the key and check out that icebox. C. Leave it and this place. D. Leave it, get the key and check out that icebox. |

You slip the ring on.
Item... gained? "FIRE BEAM 17" ring: ??
You go check out the icebox, ring in tow. The ring fits the icebox's lock perfectly, and you crack open the icebox to reveal... Two bottles of fairly cheap ale.
Well, crap.
A. Put them in your pack, and head out. B. Put one in your pack, and head out. C. Drink BOTH! D. Drink one, store the other. E. Drink one, leave the other. F. Leave both, make sure to remember the location (Mark the door and whatnot). G. Just leave. Peasant's drink. Bleh. |

Ednes believed that since ale production is probably dropped to naught now, he could sell these rather cheap bottles for much more then they are worth, if he found someone. He was not fool enough to drink them himself. |

Smart choice.
Items gained! Bottles of 'fairly cheap' ale: 2
You head back outside, and see a small demon walking down the street, carrying some bag with him.
A. Continue scavenging houses, ignore the demon. B. Go after the demon! He probably has something valuable! C. Go to business side of town. D. Leave the city's walls. |

| My name...? Ah. My name. I'm Tybalt, or rather, Apprentice Mage Xalvador, "officially" though I'll be damned if that means anything to anyone, or even helps me in this cruel place. I'm thin - but that's not to say that I'm not weak, mind you! However, my skin is pale - working on my studies meant I didn't really get out much. Not that that matters much any more. Uhm, I'm Seventeen. I was about to become an official mage, but, uh... That's another story. |

Hunger: 10% Thirst: 15% Energy: 95% Health: 95% Angelblood: 120abu (Minor sickness at 250--Your actual experience with magic allows you to save more Angelblood before consequences arise)
Inventory: Angelblood Potion x2 (Will grant 100abu over the following minute.)
SPELLS YOU POSSESS -Conjure food/drink: 20+abu. For every two abu spent, can relieve 1% hunger or 1% thirst. (Example: 30abu to remove 10% hunger AND thirst) -Conjure X: Create basic material. Could be wood, stone, iron... certain materials take more abu to create. Don't be afraid to ask how much for what. -Fireball: 20abu. Fire out a fiery projectile. Upon contact with something, will combust in about a foot radius, and anything hit with likely catch on fire! -Icewall: 10+abu. For every abu spent, you generate a square foot of three-inch thick ice. (Example: To completely block off a passageway 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide, it would take 32abu) -Slowfall: 20abu, will severely decrease your weight and cause you to take minor-to-no damage from falling! Lasts 25 seconds (easily refreshed with more abu) -Enhance sharpness: 25abu, will cause specific edge (up to five feet long) to become more sharp. Good way to spend excess angelblood and/or prepare sword/dagger-wielding allies for a fight. -Magic Key: 50abu. Will unlock most locks--overly complex locks will resist your efforts. -Mending: 25abu, will heal target for random amount of health (10-20%) -Force blast: 20-40abu. Will send out an invisible, quickly moving wave of concentrated force. Radius of the wave is an inch for every abu spent.
You're starting to hate this forest. While you can handle the occasional demonic beast attacking, it's getting to you. You've been fortunate enough to find good shelters to spend your nights in and not be attacked in them while you sleep, but how long will that last? Bit scary. Thankfully, you can provide your own food. You should get to a city. Find more surviv-
Your train of thought is interrupted by the sound of some demon or another shooting a fireball or something similar from behind you! Whipping around quickly, you find... nothing there. Now that you think about it, the sound was a bit more distant... Sure enough, you can see through the trees some demon's fireball lighting the area. If not you, then what is it fighting?
A. Best ignore it. Have to get to the city. B. Check out what's going on. Maybe it's fighting another survivor? C. No hesitation, rush it! (Specify spell or action to take) |

You move rather quietly through the trees, as the demon (A large, scaly-looking humanoid one) continues firing fireballs at whatever its target is. Getting in close, you see that its target is what appears to be a human, clad in heavy plate armour, wielding sword and shield. The demon appears to be keeping its distance from the human, and its back is to you.
A. Release a fireball at the demon, aimed high! B. Release a fireball at the demon, aimed low. May be less dangerous, but less risk of hitting the person on the opposite side of the demon. C. Fire a force wave at the demon, pushing him closer to the human and probably knocking him over! D. Continue observing. Maybe it's under control. |

[@Super, sorry that I forgot to specify, but Enhance Sharpness requires contact with the item in question.]
EDNES
You set your pack down before taking aim with the ring (at least you assume this is how you aim it) and focus on making it fire. It responds to mental cue, and a beam of fire shoots from your hand at the demon.
The beam narrowly misses, but the demon has noticed you. It begins running at you, drawing a small black blade.
A. Shoot again, you have a better idea of how to aim it. B. Run like hell! C. Get in close to punch it! D. Get in close to punch it, and use Chilling Aura! E. Inflict Pain on it, to try to make it unfocused. |
