It equals 9 when the -3 has parentheses around it. (-3)^2 = 9.
But then it doesn't have parentheses -3^2 = -9.
Therefore, -9 is the correct answer. So Blaze, Who's stupid now |

@emily
I'm showing the difference between (-3)^2 and -3^2.
They have different answers. Let me get further deep into explanation. (-3)^2 = (-3) x (-3).
Since two negatives equal postive, (-3)^2 = 9.
On the other hand,
-3^2 is different though. When there are no parentheses, It equals -3 x 3. We ignore the negative sign, since no parentheses were included in this expression.
A negative times a positive makes a negative.
Therefore, -3^2 = -9.
About half of you in this thread are imbeciles. |

@calculator73, I'm surprised they call you calculator. Do you know how stupid it looks when you put (-3)^2? The negative is always included no matter what. If it REALLY was -9 then the problem would look like this: -(3^2).
The answer is 9 and the OP is a total loser including everyone who agrees with him.

@calc
The parentheses does nothing
Brackets are used for absolute value, but that doesn't even apply here |
