for pc games, i prefer digital (due to dropbox syncing if it's installed out of steam, and steam if it's, well, on steam.)
for console games, a mix of both, though i prefer physical over digital, i won't go out of my way to get one or the other. |

| i prefer digital as it's easy to destroy or lose a physical. |

i'm terrible at managing them
also, since i use an xbox, sometimes i pull a wire which knocks it over and scratches the disc0 |

| your "friend" should go contact steam support. also, there's no way that all his games can disappear unless there was some major screwup or he got involved in piracy. |

Ps3
Physical disks that eventually stop being relevant/no longer work
My harddrive full of digital copies.
Will never die as long as I have them on this harddrive and a compatible computer.
I like myself a collectors edition now and again. |

I usually have a mix so I don't have a pyramid of games but it doesn't use up all of my memory |

| Physical Copies might be problem when you don't have enough space to store them. |

| I like both, I have a place near my PS3 to put my physical copies (probably everyone else with consoles and/or PCs do too). It's a rack of some sort. I also like digital copies (even though with my connection it takes a while to download) because I don't need to go out and buy it, I could just do it from my home. Plus most of the old and retro games are digital, for example the three first Spyro games I would like to buy so I could experience the fun and childhood memories I had of Spyro. |

I personally agree with OP, as if you break your hard drive, all your stuff = Gone, unless you know how to import that stuff to the new console
