I've been seeing quite a lot of newbie RPers out here so far without any clue whatsoever of what to do first. I created this guide to guide those players through their early stages of RPing until they can become the best RPers that we've ever seen. It will be divided up in to a few chapters and about 3/4 parts for each chapter. If you are a newbie RPer, I'd reccomend you read this and then visit a few other threads to get the gist of how people put their quite so amazing RPs together, and then try to make your own with the tips I've shown you and the organization other people will show you.

Chapter 1: Get Over It

P1:
FLAMING

Sometimes people will come to your thread in a vain attempt to try and critiscize and denounce your thread without even realizing the potential fun that you could have while roleplaying. The best way to avoid Flamers are to simply ignore them or create a private RP in a PM. Sometimes flamers will attempt to break the rules and try to use 'bad words' as the kids call it these days. Just report them if they do.

P2:
TROLLING

I know a few trolls out here in the RP world. They aren't like Flamers, who denounce your thread for no reason. Trollers will come to your thread and try to make you get our of RP even if the trolls know how much fun the RP can be if they participated. Like flamers, the best way to avoid it is to simply ignore them completely.

P3:
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM/CRITICISM

Most people think CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM is a way of flaming and trolling you as well as trying to hate on you. Not really. Constructive criticism is a way of expressing tips out to other players in a type of 'mean' fashion as I can say. Most people ignore CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, which IMO is a bad thing to do. Take the tips and make a rewrite of your thread!

P4: SPORKING

I've just added this in for fun so you can actually know the term. SPORKING is taking a very, very bad thread (such as one with no plot, no cs, or absolutely no grammar whatsoever) and purposefully dissecting every single sentence of it and reviewing over it to help you, and in some cases, just FLAME or TROLL you. A few sporkings can be funny, such as when Xilirite made his thread. That was hilarious. I'll probably link it down somewhere at the bottom part of this thread.

Chapter 2: You and Your Thread

P1: THE PLOT/STORY

The plot and story are one of the most important parts of your entire RP. They have the basis of whats going to happen in the story. What the bad guy is trying to do to take over the world. If you don't have a good and long plot and story, you might wanna run away because FLAMERS and TROLLERS WILL come to your thread and flame it. The 'Story' is pretty much the backstory of your entire RP. How did this fantasy world come to be? What kind of monsters live in your world?

P2: THE CS

The CS is mainly used to create an entire character for your story to roleplay as. If you don't have a CS, you can't even roleplay in your story and FLAMERS and TROLLERS will probably tell you to get out or at least make a CS for them aswell. Without a CS, you have a STORY instead of a ROLEPLAY. And since this is the ROLEPLAYING subforum, we want a ROLEPLAY. Stories are for pros.

P3: GRAMMAR

Grammar. One of my best friends. Without grammar, player's can't read your PLOT or STORY without any sense of whats going on. Grammar is your spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. If you don't have grammar in your roleplay, you're not going to fascinate many people with the skills we all know you have but cannot find.

P4: LONG THREADS

What I would call a 'Long Thread' is kind of a figurative speaking and a literal speaking at the same time. For a long thread, you need a story and plot that uses SHOWING instead of TELLING and describing every bit of your fantasy world you so desire to roleplay in. Having a long thread is very important, for most people don't want to join a short thread and would rather join a wordwall.

P5: WORDWALLS

A wordwall, as I can describe it thoroughly, is pretty much an 'Extemely Super Duper Califragilous Long Thread'. Its the type of thread you would make in a month and then post. Most WORDWALLS people don't want to join since it would take them four years just to read the entire thing over and five years to make a picky detailed CS. Nobody likes a wordwall. Unless most of it is optional.

Chapter 3: Posting

P1: Don't Tell, Show Instead

Showing instead of telling is possibly the most important aspect of roleplaying that I can even think of. It is probably the most useful and amazing ways of expressing what your character is doing right now. An example is here:

TELLING:

I lean over the bars and look at a lighthouse on a rock.

SHOWING:

I gracefully grip my hands on to the metal bars of my small balcony coming out from my room and lurch my body over them. I saw an object that I could not grasp it's intention of being there, but it had an odd red and white pattern to its walls and a yellow light flashing upon my eyes like a stargazer would see every single night. I saw a many ships pass by this peculiar object before I managed to grasp what it really was. It was a lighthouse, glistening upon the moonlight, and sitting on a rock with a many sharp bits coming out of it. It was a beautiful sight. A town without light, and a lighthouse the only source of help for ships.

See the difference?

P2: DIALOGUE

Talk with your friends when roleplaying! There are two types of dialogue: OoC Dialogue and Chat Dialogue. OoC dialogue is usually information or a conversation that has nothing to do with the roleplay itself, since OoC means Out of Character. Chat Dialogue is dialogue in your roleplay when talking to other people. It is used in conversation and does have a lot to do with GRAMMAR, but quotation marks are absolutely needed to express chat dialogue otherwise characters wont know what to do.

W/ CHAT DIALOGUE:

"Hello there." I said to Dameon, holding my legs upright in front of him while unsheathing my sword in a boasting manner. "Are you ready?"

Hello there I said to Dameon, holding my legs upright in front of him while unsheathing my sword in a boasting manner. Are you ready?

Can you tell where the dialogue actually is? Neither could I.

P3: USING VOCABULARY

You know those books you kids always read to learn that 'stupid' vocabulary words? In RP, they'll actually come to use. Nobody wants to read a dull and stupid sentence such as 'I see a dog'. Use dose vocab wordz, kidz! Turn a dull in to an exciting by adding verbal remarks and adjectives to your predicate.
'I manuever my head around 90 degrees, and out of the corner of my eye I spot a black dog, waiting for my reply to his growl'
Thats better.

Chapter 4: Concluding this Guide

I honestly do hope that those newbie RPers learned something of importance from this guide. It took me an hour just to write it all out and I truly do wish that you new RPers can express your feelings in a much more mannered way and not to troll or flame on other people. I wish you all a very good day and a fine RPing year!

"I'll plan ahead later."

What's the point?
Unless this gets stickied (which it wont), practically no one will read this.

One bad thing: You have to touch on Third-Person and Second-Person RPING.

considering most new roleplayers on this forum either have some experience or simply learn from doing this is kind of pointless

You know, it's not a crime to have your own opinion, Quasi.

Well, the moderators should certainly make something like this. There's no room for growth if new people are thrusted into a foreign environment without an inkling of what's going on.

For every mop, there is a piece of copper.
