It's that after the first game, it all goes down hill. That's right, I truly believe this to be so. Once in a blue moon, a good plot-line is created, with a good environment and good characters. Halo, for example, the very first one, was enjoyable. I might even say that Halo 2 was enjoyable, as it's still one of my favorites. But when videogames stray too far from their own expertise... well, that's when it gets you.
I've played Assassin's Creed. The gameplay flowed well and I enjoyed the constant running, jumping, climbing, and obvious stealth-killing. It was invigorating to say the least. And then I put Assassin's Creed II into my disc drive... biggest head-ache-inducing appointment's... ever. This game dives in and out of "horrible failure" and "potential greatness" like a penguin trying to catch fish in an ocean full of oil. That's it; the game is polluted.
And after all, this goes hand in hand with what I'm trying to say: Videogame franchises don't know where to draw the line! They lose themselves in what I can only assume is the inherent fandom, and forget what they did right. And since I've not completely lost my Faith in the Halo series... (simple yet easy-to-follow, complicated storylines are always the best, imo) I plan on purchasing Halo 5... I think... Hopefully. :3
And that's basically what I feel about videogame franchises, to be frank.
Accept the world for what it is; home to a freak-show race of incompetent beings. |

Because a single example for a single sequel was bad, all sequels are bad.
That's what we call generalization, which is a fallacy, and not to be used as an argument. |

| Well...look at Star Wars Battlefront 2. A very highly praised game compared to the first. |

| I believe the 2nd entry of a series usually improves itself on what 1 failed, the 3rd one then attempts to make something new to avoid repetitiveness which results in fan praise or hate. |

@piratyy MGS4 was also pretty fun, but to me it had too many cut-scenes and little gameplay. |

really? If we miss out ending cutscenes (because there is no gameplay after that), then MGS4 has the least cutscenes in the entire series
Kojima himself has said that long cutscenes are outdated so he did his best to condense the story, which is tough considering this is Metal Gear |

"I don't really want to hear what you think, anyways..."
oh, you're so bloody self-centered
anyways the pokemon series is a brilliant example of things getting better as they go on, although it sort of fluctuates with it pikmin 2 left 4 dead 2 silent hill 2 resident evil 4 fallout 3 etc, etc, etc my opinion, of course

So, according to your logic, Uncharted 1 is apparently the best in the series? Halo 2's worse than its offline-only (excepting PC) predecessor? Far Cry 3 (which I personally dislike, but that's beside the point) is worse than the first two games that no one knew about? The one that infuriates me the most: You're saying Morrowind is worse than Arena and Daggerfall?! |
