Just wanted to introduce myself to the ROBLOX community. I've joined the ROBLOX team as Lead Designer; I'm both excited and impressed by the creativity here and I look forward to helping everyone build even more amazing games and worlds. Please feel free to post questions, ideas, and general observations about what you'd like to see in future ROBLOX releases (please keep it DESIGN related, though!).
In the meantime, if you find me online, say "hi"!

Well hello I guess, seems you've yet to obtain a banner etc. Anyway, it seems your first place, the castle like one, has some good potential to be a possible fun CTF map. Or maybe make it some sort of siege like game.
We do need some information on how well dynamic lighting is going though* :) |

| I agree with R3ge. Alot of builders/scripters have been waiting for the dynamic lighting for a long time. We'd appriciate any information you or the other admins/moderators can give us. |

| Designer is always a funny title. For now, I'm looking at ways of improving all aspects of the client, studio, and website. Anything that makes ROBLOX cooler for users is included. Think of me as an advocate for better look, feel, and play. |

| Then could you do something about the hideous leaderboard in games? I really liked the way it was earlier in 2012 but someone had the notion that they absolutely had to make it so cartoony that it doesn't look like it belongs with anything, at all. The buttons on it glow blue when roblox's main color is red. The color is medium gray when everything else is dark gray, black, or transparent. Roblox doesn't even support Scale9Frames, so it ends up looking like a stretched out image. It also can't be closed with a script, which is something I really liked about the old leaderboard. The scrolling doesn't work so you have to drag, but some noob coded it so you have to drag it backwards. It only shows like 6 players at a time (even when expanded!) and the entire "click on player's names to report abuse and manage friends" idea is just ugly; especially from an iPad standpoint where a misclick could end up reporting the wrong person thus getting the reporter banned. It's also worth mentioning that I already know my username and I don't need to see it in big letters on the top of the player list in every game. |

Also, I doubt you can do this through scripting. I'd like complete control over the camera views, and have separate lighting, fog an ambient settings for individual players.
What I mean by complete control is you are able to turn a camera to an angle, maybe have it show something upside down, as well as possibly splitting the camera to two different views.
And the separate lighting effects could be good to, could help with the concept of dynamic lighting. (If a player enters a cave, they would walk through an invisible brick that's scripted to change the individuals ambient and lighting effects on them, and only them.) |

| Sounds cool, R3geBiscuit! Yup, we were just talking about lighting/cameras this morning and how it can really have a huge impact on atmosphere, story telling, etc. Definitely something on the list of potential improvements. |

Cr3, since you're going to discus how to improve ROBLOX, how about this: The quality of ROBLOX games has changed, in a bad way. A lot of people use free models and/or copied games. Instrucions in the studio mode, or just an instruction video, would be very nice.
I tried to tell people how to build with the old tools myself, but they didn't seem to listen to me. |

Thanks for the suggestions, Sherknock. Moderating the quality of submissions is very time consuming. Part of the solution is to find a way to allow users to better rate games, themselves, rather than just simply the number of visits or favorites.
As far as Studio goes, I'm just learning it myself and find that there are a lot of ways to make it more user-friendly. Not just tutorial videos but better documentation! Also, what about interactive tutorials within Studio so that you are actually DOING the building rather than watching someone else do it? |
