The topic of this here thread is communication. More specifically, communication of us scripters outside of ROBLOX.
This thread is called "Many have tried" because it is true - many have (and failed). The most notable examples are popinman322 and JulienDethuren's attempts at IRC and Retroshare. Neither really worked out after a few days.
I think I know why. See, all these current mediums require some sort of user interaction to remain meaningful. But, in order to get user interaction, you need users, and in order to get more users you need user interaction. And so on and so forth.
So here's my idea. I make a website (with anyone else who would like to) that would serve as a database to the "regulars". It could contain usernames, blurbs, links to profiles, and methods of interaction outside ROBLOX: FB, Twitter, G+, IRC, X/F, Steam, website, electronic mail (lol hipster), or anything else you guys can think of.
Usernames could be added by anyone. Additionally, anyone could submit a method of interaction to that username. However, all of those methods would be deemed "Uncertified", meaning that there's a chance they're not correct.
In order to authenticate, you'd have to log in using your ROBLOX account. This will involve sending a POST request to m.roblox.com and then reading to output to determine if you are authenticated (no messing with .ROBLOSECURITY cookies or storing of information involved). After you've authenticated, you can then edit your blurb, add certified methods of contact, list achievements, etc. You will also have the ability to remove other methods of interaction posted by others if you don't want them to appear in public.
Now to answer the question of why I'm posting this. The reason is, I need to make sure enough people will use it to warrant actually spending time and resources developing it.
To answer, simply reply with "I'd use that", "support", "yes", etc.
If you have a suggestion or concern, please post it.
TL;DR: I maik wbsite where u c old scr1pt0rs an talk 2 dem k

Support. I would also like to help with graphics, simply because Scripters like eye candy.

@Absolute
If this actually becomes a real project, I'll be using Boostrap primarily, so you might want to learn bit about it: twitter(dot)github(dot)com(slash)bootstrap
And yeah, I am in dire need of graphics designers.

| I heard http://www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=33 was a pretty cool place to chat with Scripters. If you mean for non-scripting discussions, people could always use Off-Topic or a group. It is a good idea in concept; but there doesn't seem to be enough merit behind setting everything up. There isn't really a need to go beyond the website to talk to people on the website. |

Just to clarify: this isn't a social network. It's a database of people, their accomplishments, and ways you can contact them.

| Instead of making people log in, why not do something similar to LuaLearners and require some kind of code in the blurb? |

I know logging in with your account doesn't sound appealing (it doesn't to me, either) but how else should you be authenticated? There really isn't another way. If I used a custom account system there's no way to make sure that someone's who they really say they are.
The only other way I can think of is a voting system, where people vote on methods of contact that worked and ones that get, say, -5 votes are removed (this still isn't 100% foolproof, since it uses the community).
Poll: Logging in or voting?

@Solo
Maybe, but the problem with that is that you'd then have to wait ~5 minutes (depending on the amount of requests) just to be authenticated. And I know nobody likes waiting that long.

No thank you, I don't think anyone would log in with their current account's information.

I've never even heard of Bootstrap; but as I previously stated, I will be glad to help with graphics. Just "hit me up" if you need anything.

| Better idea for verifying ROBLOX accounts: Enter your ROBLOX username, then a bot on the server side sends a message to that account containing a code to use to verify your account on the site. |

That does seem like a better approach.
But, back to the main question: how many of you would actually want something like this? |

No thanks, I don't want people I know in real life knowing I play Roblox. |
