First off, I would like to state that I am NOT asking to give us an Android App right now. This is simply a question about the future development of the Android App!

Now that's out of the way, here's the question.

Why not make Roblox Mobile only compatible with the following min. requirements -

CPU - Dual Core clocked at 800mHz
RAM - 512 mb
GPU - I really don't know how to rank this, but I know this matters.
Android Platform - Android 4.0 ICS and above

What I am saying is make this the lowest requirements. If you have any specs lower than this, then you cannot play ROBLOX Mobile.

Most devices that run android now adays have meet or go beyond these requirements. I think this should be where ROBLOX makes the limit.

Besides, on Android, you can prevent lower-based devices from playing by detecting the Hardware! On iOS, it's not as easy to do so...

Tell me what you think!

@shadowblaster22

Please don't assume that I copied yourpost because I didn't.
I will admit to not looking to see if a post like this existed, so I'm sorry for that.

Okay, but it's very similar to the thread I posted a long time ago. :P

Anyways Android 4.0 will probably be a must because it has a higher API level than Gingerbread or previous versions.

I have Xperia S, you guys? :D

Honeycomb is now old, and it wasn't very good either, it was like a fail project for Google.

Phones were originally meant to upgrade to Honeycomb, but instead they were kept at Gingerbread because Honeycomb was not that good.

Android 4.0 and above are a treat! :)

honeycomb is closed source, therefore it's the least favorite for hackers and devs.

I have never really messed around with Honeycomb. The only versions of Android I've tinkered with is 2.3.3, 4.0.4, and 4.1.1 .

But I personally think 4.1 should be the min. due to it's newest technologies and speed.

While saying that, 4.0 should be the min. due to that a lot of people still use it, and isn't that slow. It's just that 4.1 had Project Butter which sped up things a lot.

Gingerbread might not be used by the majority of Android users, but it is used by a lot. Many phones with gingerbread have at least 512mb of RAM, but they can't be upgraded, I think that it should be supported. Not everyone buys a new phone every year you know.

Very few phones have Android 4.0 and 4.1, however 65% of Android phones have/had Gingerbread.

However Gingerbread and Honeycomb have a low API level for online games, so their is very little chance of them getting ROBLOX Mobile App.

The difference between Ice Cream Sandwich(Android 4.0) and Jellybean(4.1) is that in Jellybean Android uses Vsync Timing to make the fps of Android at a consistent 60 fps, and triple GPU buffering also makes games run much smoother.

Android 4.2, has various improvements, including lock screen widgets for phones and tablets, and user profiles for tablets.

Phones with 512 Mb ROM or less did not recieve Android 4.0
Phones with 512 Mb RAM or less will not get Android 4.1
Any phone that got Android 4.1 has a very high chance of getting Android 4.2

Keylime Pie(Android 5.0) hasn't been released yet, but I believe it will only be compatible with quad core phones.

@OP: As a general rule of thumb, you should target as far back as makes sense. Android 2.2 is where most android devs backport to because Froyo still has a significant portion of android devieces (30.88% according to my dev console for total user installs of my Roblox Catalog app). ICS+ only has a 58.95% share according to my dev console (same Roblox Catalog app). I target back to Android 2.1.

It's also important to note that most parents don't buy their kids high-end devices (most are still on their first or second phone), so a dual core processor is asking a bit too much IMO. 512M of ram is reasonable.

That's up to the device carrier and manufacturer. Either way, that would be a bad move on their parts.

"That's up to the device carrier and manufacturer. Either way, that would be a bad move on their parts."

The flagship phones of 2012 had quad core processors, including Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X, LG Optimus G, HTC One X+.

The phones of 2013 have 5 Inch Screens, with 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB of RAM, Adreno 330 GPU's, like Xperia Z or DROID DNA.

So I'm pretty sure that only quad core phone's will recieve Keylime Pie, and every phone that will be produced now will have a quad core processor.

Sony was quite behind in processor and GPU specs, but even they managaed to announce a quad core phone at CES this year.

Yes it would be a bad move on their parts, but Android updates are quite different from iOS updates.

I think they should make the RAM requirement to meet at least 512MB.
Or else, it's just going to shut down on higher memory process game.

About the CPU, I honestly think it doesn't matter.
If you have lower CPU speed, it's just going to run slower...

I have Samsung Galaxy S, and IPad 2 to play on da go~ (JK, I don't have 3G on my iPad)
