-NOTE: This is a long forum post. Those with short attention spans may not reach the end of this forum alive.-
Roblox Talk is a 24/7, 365 days a year forum that undergoes dramatic changes from panic to peace. There are some days where certain happenings on ROBLOX that create discussions that get quickly out of hand, and become events that many RTers wish to forget and are lost in the sands of time. But not for very long.
This is a work-in-progress list of some of the true disasters that RT experienced. There may be others that have yet to be documented. Contributing to this list requires you to reply some information that could be included in the next documentation.
In each entry you can find the date and apparent time of each disaster, along with a retelling of events. You can also look at real threads that were made at the time of the event. Some entry data may be inaccurate, but will be fixed eventually if the interest in the documentation project gets enough support.
Thanks for your interest!

-ST. ADMIN'S DAY- -Date: 3/17/09- -Time: 12:00 PM(?)-
ORIGIN: An error in the website coding supposedly opened the gateway to the official admin panel of the site, allowing several users to actually begin deleting and undeleting each other without consequence. An uncertain amount of forumers were banned for no reason but were quickly reversed. Those who were found fooling around with the admin panel were handed out what was known as the first IP bans from Roblox. No specific names of the offenders were recorded, although many users may still have a Reminder in their ban logs on the day of 3/17/09 simply for the reason "Asking about admin power."
AFTERMATH: The Roblox admins apologized for their mistake and reversed most of the undeserved bans. Apparently, several users who had given themselves large amounts of ROBUX never had the money taken off of their hands, beginning the eventual demise of the Trade Currency from the unbalanced economy. Few considered this gift as a compensation of the admins' mistake; a gift they wholeheartedly agreed with.

-HATSPLOSION- -Date: May 2009- -Time Uncertain-
ORIGIN: Nicknamed "The Month Brighteyes Stopped Caring", Hatsplosion was known as the pivot point between the good released hats and the bad. It also began the time when the release of new Hats would never again be documented in the Blog because too many were being released. Several new hats at this time had better textures and more polygons, ridding Roblox of its cartoony feel forever.
PRECURSOR: Brighteyes ushered in the new era of item making shortly after joining the developer team in 2009. She inspired the creation of Gear and would go on to contributing to the finer aspects of Character building: namely, wearing three hats at once and the ability to have hair.
-THE UNITED FORUMERS- -Date: June 2009- -Time Uncertain-
ORIGIN: Perhaps the largest collaboration to ever be conceived throughout the forums as a whole, the United Forumers was a mix of mostly General Discussion forumers who raided the bases of the x-101st in the early days of war clan warfare. Led by thanu, the United Forumers caused havoc to Roblox's once most-powerful army, attacking in teams and shutting down operations.
PRECURSOR: Thanu organized the UF from the ground up, recruiting leaders like justgoaway1 and LegoIsReal to keep things in charge. He called for a collaboration between present-day GDers and OTers. Unfortunately, a real establishment of power was never made as Groups were not available at the time, so planned events were few and far between. Lordnathan eventually took notice and became involved in the forums to counter the savage claims the UF were bringing against his faction.
AFTERMATH: Once forum wars began to break out between the two sides, moderators stepped in and discouraged the fighting between the two. Thanu was deleted for reasons that are still undetermined, and the UF fell apart shortly after. When a secondary leadership was set up, UF members began to act on their own accord and made irrational decisions that tore up relations between the General Discussioners and the Off Topicers from the inside-out. There was still enough motivation to penalize the x-101st when the Groups feature released. An unnamed GDer, speculated to be mustyoshi, grabbed the name x-101st for himself and sold the group to lordnathan, pocketing the money and letting the two sides travel their own paths.

-NATE2800'S MAGICAL DIAMONDS- -Date: 6/9/09- -Time: 5:00 PM-
ORIGIN: Roblox Talk forumers were surprised to see a regular user posting with 6 three-dimensional diamonds colored like the rainbow positioned in a circle around an avatar in the summer of 2009. Shortly after the discovery, nate2800 became infamous for acting oblivious to his "character glitch" despite it being present on an account with no possessions of its own. Forumers asked for their own special accessories and speculated if nate was an exploiter.
AFTERMATH: An hour after nate's reveal, MrDoomBringer made a pin stating "The diamonds are magical." and offering no detailed explanation. Nate2800 was banned minutes later, allowing users to assume that the character glitch was indeed an exploit, although some argue that the devs were using nate as a test account to patch the Character updating system.

-THE DAY OF WARRING- -Date: 12/30/09- -Time: 2:00 PM-
ORIGIN: The first major forum war between Roblox Talk and Off Topic began during the winter break of 2009 for reasons not totally known. Forumers from both subsections took "vacations" into other territory, pretending to spy on the enemy and getting PA'd when discovered. This eventually led to a finger pointing episode that lasted the rest of the day. Forumers would appoint diplomats and generals to lead into "war", creating threads to amass enemy forumers into certain threads and lay claim to the subsection. This would be the time in which newly-appointed Supermod Chro would become known to Robloxians as the cruel fist of the moderation squad.
PRECURSOR: At some point in late 2009, Chro (otherwise known as the Choo-Choo due to his obsession with trains on his profile) became a volunteer forum moderator. He stayed relatively silent until the Day of Warring in which he created several pinned posts, each one becoming more threatening and desperate in attempting to stop the forum war.
AFTERMATH: By New Year's Eve 2009, Roblox Talk essentially became a wasteland. Any forumer who had not heeded the warnings of Chro from the day before was 14-day banned. Many threads in support of the moderation effort were locked or deleted, and their thread creators temporary banned with them. Those who critiqued the abuse of power enough ended up with their accounts deleted, killing off several RT regulars. While a specific count of bans wasn't taken, there was estimated to be at least three dozen forumers from both RT and OT with two-weekers, teaching a lesson to both sides that messing with Chro was an untolerable act.

-THE NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS FORUM- -Date: September 2009- -Time Uncertain-
ORIGIN: Known as "Forumer Purgatory", a secret forum subsection numbered ID=34 was created on accident, and was never truly removed from the site until a year after. Upon visiting the forum, users were greeted with the pinned post "DO NOT POST HERE. I MEAN IT." by MrDoomBringer, containing the message "EVERYONE WHO POSTS HERE GETS A BAN. NO EXCEPTIONS." Users ignored the message and posted anyway, and were given the proposed punishment: 3-day for their curiousity, and a deletion for each time it persisted.
AFTERMATH: The News & Announcements forum was finally erased nearly a year after its creation. At least several dozen pages of consecutively locked and Content Deleted threads littered the subsection. Few users had supposedly used it for "goodbye" moments where they wanted to finalize their quitting from Roblox, where all they had to post was a single sentence before being wiped off the site.

-XD-DAY- -Date: 3/1/2010- -Time Uncertain-
ORIGIN: Disney began a long-term partnership with Roblox in order to promote the creation of the new show Zeke and Luther on Disney XD. With it's arrival, skateboards and promotional helmets were available for purchase, and Roblox bricks became easier to shape into slopes to encourage skate park Places. A contest was made to celebrate, but not every user who witnessed the transition was very pleased...
AFTERMATH: Roblox Talk ignited into flames once the sponsorship was announced. Users threatened to quit and complained that Roblox was becoming too kid-oriented. Most of the arguments were focused on which side was overreacting over the new updates. Several users were banned or deleted for crossing the line too far, and the reprecussions of the sponsorship were constantly brought up months from then as forumers worried about what other promotions would come...

-APRIL TROLL'S DAY- -Date: 4/1/2012- -Time: 5:00 PM-
ORIGIN: A breach in admin accounts was discovered leading to the exploitation of the entire website. Fake banners announcing the return of Pheedy, Minish, and McNoobster, all long-time RT forumers, were displayed throughout the site. While it wasn't totally confirmed if said users were responsible, they were encouraged from the reactions of RT and posed as several retired administrators. The "mascot" of the attack was a crude smiley face drawn in Paint.NET simply named "c:", in which a hacked stickmasterluke wore while making offsale hats available to the public again, for free.
AFTERMATH: ReeseMcBlox's compromised account posted profanity after the breach, followed by an imposter Stealth Pilot asking users "who wants to get banned, post here if so". Pheedy especially made a thread titled "I'M BAAAAAACK!!!!!" with his volunteer moderator badge present. While other online mods did their best to stop the multitude of threads being made, the site was shut down about an hour after the launch of the attack, using the downtime to rollback the site and erase much of the exploits of the supposed attackers from Roblox.

This is all of the information that can be fit into the first edition of the RT Disaster Documentary. If you did read it all, we appreciate your interest and encourage you to support the release and research of future editions.
Thanks to the efforts of bibbs123 and THEAVENGER119 for additional information.
TL;DRing is unnecessary.

Just realizing now that I put the News & Announcements forum and The Day of Warring out of order. I guess I'll have to fix that later when I'm not half-asleep.

I wonder if I should change this to Random Talk Disaster Documentation. I will probably have V1.1 out when Random Talk is created. |
