GENERAL INFORMATION Common Name: Golden Trout Scientific Name: Oncorhynchus aguabonita Diet: Invertebrates, insects, larvae, and zooplankton Habitat: Very sensitive to water quality. Require clean cold clear mountain streams and lakes. Golden Trout are found only in high altitude waters. Spawn: Late June or July in streams over gravel riffles. Eggs hatch in about three weeks. Fry emerge from the gravel about two to three weeks later. Distribution: Echo Lake (Duchesne County) Origin: Native to the South Fork of the Kern River drainage in California Characteristics: May also be known as a Palomino Trout. The body is deep yellow to deep orange. The sides are unmarked, but some fish have a darker orange lateral line. The caudal fin is nearly square.
