More claims about the unannounced, recently teased Fallout 4 have dribbled from Reddit's bottomless maw. Drawing on a PR source, user GNR_Informant has reiterated rumors that the game is set in and around post-apocalyptic Boston, and alleges that it will adopt certain RPG mechanics from Skyrim.
Also tipped to make the cut are a new faction comparable to the Super Mutants and Ghouls. Boston itself will look and feel very different to prior Fallout cities, inching the franchise a little closer to the high tech slickness of a Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
"From my understanding, some Obsidian members have been hired for Fallout 4," GNR_Informant comments in the thread. "Really, I don't know if FO4 is the game they got hired for, but its most likely that one." Here's his post in full. Bear in mind that all this is strictly unconfirmed for the moment. - First and foremost, the game will take place in Boston, and be kind of a direct sequel to Fallout 3 with a few groups returning.
- From what it sounds like, "The Institute" is pretty much the downtown DC or New Vegas of this game. Boston is going to be unlike anything we've seen in a Fallout game before, with buildings more on par with cyberpunk and retro-futurism.
- Androids play a big part in this game. The railroad from Fallout 3 is a faction. The enemies of the railroad is "the Plantation" -- a group who force Androids to farm so that Humans can get food. The Institute is highly advanced and probably obtained or built their own GECK to start a farm.
- Due to complaints about using Super Mutants and the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 3 excessively and going against the lore too much, Bethesda has decided to avoid using these groups. Bethesda wants to make a new "race" (think Ghoul, Super Mutant) which will be central to Boston. Bethesda is currently looking at Lovecraftian fiction since Boston is around "Lovecraft Country".
- Bethesda has no plans to reinvent the leveling up system to make it more like Skyrim and want to make Fallout 4 more distinct from Skyrim since of the complaints that Oblivion and Fallout 3 were too similar. Bethesda is thinking about introducing a system, similar to Skyrim, where your skills can level up if you perform certain tasks.
Fallout 3 voice actor Erik Todd Dellums hinted this week that a Fallout 4 announcement may happen soon. Does any of the above take your fancy?

@Spose
I know. A lot of people who play the classic Fallout titles complain a lot about 3 for limitless amount of reasons. I've played all of the Fallouts and I didn't see any problem with 3.
I really don't see why they complained, anyway. The BoS is probably the biggest organization in Post-Apocoalyptia next to the NCR. I could understand their presence. The mutation that caused Super Mutants was in development pre-war, so they are also understandably vast.

Apparently Three Dog makes a return.
But honestly, If what you say is true, and that Fallout becomes a Post Apocolyptic Futuristic-Steampunk game, then I may not buy the next installment of my favorite game.
I love Fallout for the Historic Value, and if it just starts throwing in random Steampunk Garbage, I'll find myself returning to the land of the Capital Wasteland. |

If you read it, it would be a bit more Cyberpunk-ish. It would also add more retro-futurism to the mix, which Fallout is famous for.

I hope by "Retro" you mean that old joke of "People never really got over the 50s".
But still, Cyberpunk makes me uneasy. If I have a chance to become a legit "Android" at one point or another, I may be a bit offended. |

one small adjustment to the game that i would love is more than one voice for the player character, even if the voice is used only for grunts
i hate making some burly guy that would usually have a really deep voice, only to find him with the vanilla average-joe voice
also co-op would be nice, but may not work out
also also vehicles/mounts (would be nice to ride a mole rat, yes?) |

Yes, I'm sure they mean that the buildings and cars will still look like something from the 1950s, but feature some futuristic elements to them.
Fallout was always meant to look like "The World Of Tomorrow" how people in the late '40s would see it.

@Mel,
I'll go get Snuffles.
And I always had a thought for a Fallout Co-op.
Like, in Fallout 3, I had the thought:
If 1 of the 2 players picks up 5 Caps, They both get 5 Caps.
1 picks up an Assault Rifle, they both get one.
But it'd be different for Unique stuff. Don't want 2 people carrying around MIRVs. |

It would be pretty cool if it broke the tradition of picking a dialog box and hearing what the NPC responds with. Maybe pick the dialog box, and show (and hear) your player character talking.
Mounts and vehicles would be pretty cool, but the only mount I could think of that's domesticated enough would be Brahmin, and I don't think they would be much fun to ride. The "All Roads" graphic novel showed horses. Maybe we can ride mutated horses of some kind?

@Kill,
New Vegas has various "Mount and Vehicle" mods.
Most commonly, the XRE Series. Currently, There's a Pilotable Vertibird. And a Car is in production.
As well, there's a Brahmin named Betsy that acts as a storage system and a mount. |

I play Fallout on consoles. It would be cool as hell to play it on PC to experience the large mod community, but vanilla Fallout is still satisfactory.
