In part one, we explored some issues that are fairly obviously stupid, and we looked at provincial human rights commissions and tribunals which have made stupid court cases. In part two, I will go to a national level and explore some more controversial issues.
Case 1) The Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC) and Mark Steyn
Despite the name, Steyn is not a Jew.
In December 2007, the CIC filed a complaint to the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) againt Mark Steyn, a noted author of books such as America Alone and After America. After Steyn quoted a Norwegian Imam saying that Muslims were breeding "Like Mosquitos", the CIC filed the complaint saying that Steyn was "exposing Muslims to hatred and contempt". (Hate Speech)
The head of the CIC, Mohammed Elmasry, filed the complaint, and therefore the complaint was under his name. Elmasry later backed down on the court case after it was widely discovered that he, in 2004, went on The Michael Coren Show and basically said that all Israeli citizens abover the age of 18 were legitimate targets for murder.
From this we can gather what kind of things get brought up to the CHRC, and the kind of crud that comes out of the CIC. ------- Case 2) Syed Soharwardy vs Ezra Levant, this one is somewhat legitimate
Ezra Levant, a former Lawer, former politician and a journalist was publisher of the Calgary Herald, a newspaper in Calgary, Alberta. A complaint went to the CHRC when the newspaper published the Danish Muhammed cartoons. Levant was brought to a place to be interogated by the CHRC, but was allowed to videotape it. After it was done, he posted the video on YouTube and it went viral. After realising the stupidity brought up by McGovern and his human rights commission, they let him go.
Soharwardy also backed down after being accused of being anti-Democracy for trying to file a complaint that should be protected by freedom of speech and anti-Semetism. He denied this, saying he loves Canada and democracy, but it was later discovered that he wrote the following in a column:
"Sharia cannot be customized for specific countries. These universal, divine laws are for all people of all countries for all times."
As for the anti-Semetism part, he was later discovered to have written that Israel is comparable to Germans during WWII and what is happening in Palestine is worse than the lolacaust. ------- From this we gather what kind of idiocy goes through the CHRC.

| And here I thought Canada was a good country. But when were socialist countries ever good? I say Quebec should form its own country! It does not have to live under such a shameful government! Also, it has good poutine. |

| Exactly! If Quebec is leftist, then most of its people would obviously support revolution and secession! |
