Why won't people realize that there's just as many sci-fi RPs as there are fantasy RPs?

| I beg to differ, fantasy and medieval threads can bring out originality. |

everything is over done or unoriginal basically
i don't really remember seeing a thread that didnt follow a formula similar to mainstream entertainment
usually fantasy is comparable to lo.rd of the rings and all that good stuff
a lot of sci-fi i see is very alien-esque or star tr.ek like
medieval just basically goes the same way every time
and there's just never really any variety i suppose.
that's not to say its bad, though, it really doesn't matter |

That is the point, I took the over done highschool idea. Kind of made fun of it with the cliques and the generic students and storyline and made a successful roleplay by embracing the orginality.
I may make a vampire one. |

You know, I wouldn't say fantasy. Just medieval fantasy. It can be nice, but nothing new is every introduced that I can see. Unoriginal doesn't necessarily mean bad, just unoriginal. Things are unoriginal because they are based repeatedly on successful formulas. If the formula is successful, it's good to a certain extent.
I think the best Sci-Fi is Sci-Fi that is in present times, but in an alternate universe type of thing. At least, insofar as RPs.
MrGiraffe1, I agree with you on the medieval/fantasy part. |

I actually hate High School for the same reason as I think a lot of people do. For a while last year like 4/5 threads were highschool threads. Now they're completely burnt out for me. I think it was last year. Maybe 2011. :\ |

And actually, all ideas are unoriginal.
Everything is based off of something else. Any idea you have is built up of many ideas you have already heard, because the human mind is brilliant and uses anything it knows.
So it's your own brilliant, ginormous brain that is uncapable of new ideas.

| If you wish to make an original roleplay, you must first create the universe. |

| If you want a highschool rp, why don't you go to school? |

@j
it's more of a setting and offers for far more social interaction than most rps offer, as a majority of role plays dont always focus on forming friendships progressively. |

You have to sit through lectures, you experience real feels from not being accepted by a social group, getting bad grades can affect your life, you don't have all the technology and clothes and such for free, and you can't just up and close the window to go do something else for a while?
Jcarson, high school RPs have all the pros of high school with none of the cons. That's like the dream of everybody who has ever gone to high school. |

| I may seem narcistic here, but it just doesn't seem like its worthwhile to even make or be in just a run of the mill highschool RP. Its nothing you can't do in real life (To extents, definately differences.) And when you come down to it, it's not going to make an excellent story in the end, roleplay is about the adventures that never happened. And a bunch of kids running around a highschool? Its a story told, way too many times. |

@j
to be honest, they're more for people who love being characters but will often get bored of the story in a roleplay, like myself. it kind of allows you to be free and have your own adventures while staying in character, which is similar to a normal town rp. the thing with roleplay is it is about doing something you could never do before, but you can't be another person in real life, can you?
it's nice to do normal experiences in the eyes of someone else. many people constantly wonder what goes on in another persons head. again, it focuses more on character and interaction and often time allows for a lot of humour that would feel out of place in certain threads or just be considered annoying |

Yeah, Fantasy and Medieval roleplays are not done as much as they should be.

| Taking that with a punch (No, that wasn't a spelling error) of sarcasm, to be honest, F/M roleplays are done alot, but they aren't really executed correctly very often. I'm not saying that that's the solution, I'm just saying it's not part of the problem, either. |
