| So say for example you made a ROBLOX account in 2008-2010 when you were younger/less mature and wanted your name to change. Well the issue is the fact that the only way you can get a different name is by making a completely new account. So the name changer will be so you can change your name once (maybe making it so you have to wait 3 months or so after creating your account). If this could happen people (like me) who wanna change their names could do it without losing all their items. |

Changing a name would require a-lot of work. There would be enourmous glitches.
And if this was the case;
Everytime a user changed his username, His/her profile, created Hats, created Places, created Clothing, and created models would request a server reset of the ID Link.
Consistent server resets is extremely bad, and can cause data wipes. Websites that have a "change username" button doesn't really change your username.
For example;
www.ExampleSite.Com >
Your original username: Noob101
After changing username: Noob202
The server manifest in which your whole website identity is located will still be classified as "Noob101"
It's basically putting makeup over your username. And ROBLOX Can't and won't do that because that's to cheesy.
Everything ROBLOX does is all professionally acceptable in my opinion, and they don't have pointless or sketchy features.
Changing a username would be more for a Forum website. If you want to request username change, you can email; info@roblox.com
No guarantees, but worth the shot. Because this won't happen. |

more like WaNTS(credit to person who said this first)
roblox already changes your username if a parent requests it because of privacy concerns(like if your real name is bobsmith and your username is bobsmith16 |

Not sure who told you that, or if you really know what you're talking about. But over all, you're wrong.
There's many ways of implementing this.
Depending on how they have their database set-up, when a user changes their username, they can search every user who is friends with said user, by his old name. Then just replace it with his new one.
A second way would be even easier, something similar to how RS does it, keep the original username and make a new field for display name. |

| Maybe login information and data can be tied to your e-mail while your profile and in-game name displays a custom alias. |

No need, we're all tied by a unique ID that gets stored into the database along with username, pass\\word, and whatever they store. |

@Pugzy
The data is stored in a user server file among different ports. Every users Byte-Code protected '.ini' file setup, is each registered under whatever name he/she had signed up with upon original creation.
As for the ID, but to prevent glitches associating with past ID's (Formal Usernames); Companies use the unique username as the main host for each players data.
The clothing on a player isn't stored in their file, but what the ID & Username of whomever may have created what they're wearing; get's themselves filed under the consumers(users) configuration profile, and that get's filed under the ROBLOX Catalog configuration values (Amount of buys, favorites, etc.), And then that get's filed under the Content Creators configuration profiles (R$, Tix) or even (Place visits, Friend request)
Therefore It would be an endless chain, and changing would call for such an advanced process to put all these, + many more pieces back together in a way it doesn't effect the user, but changes the server configuration profiles, which would require a certain data technician & manager to monitor all in-coming and out-coming data batches
This feature won't be considered, and comparing puny sites with lack of features in comparison to ROBLOX Won't to of much as an relevant summarization of how it could work.
And the friend request system would be changed. ""Why not send a message when a friend changes his username"
Trick question; What if he/she isn't really my friend, or i could care less?
Exactly, and incoming friend request would have to inspected and refreshed consistently by ROBLOX Server supervisors.
So to solve this question basically for once and for all,
Not happening.
I get it, you understand their is a way todo this, but it requires a-lot, and it isn't worth more than a few day's of time. The feature has already been rejected endlessly, and that won't change.
To much work, to much errors at stake, would require ROBLOX to host test servers and such just in dedication to such a small feature, and quite honestly, usernames is what keeps you unique.
This isn't Google+, it's a gaming software. The game depends on your name. That's why Sony doesn't let you change your username.

First off. No, they don't use ini files to configure your username, not on Roblox anyways. That's just stupid to do with a game like Roblox. They use some sort of MySql, or some other database which is completely different than an ini file.
Wanna know why it's completely different? Because MySql, or some other database is built to be fast, built to look up, and built to add , change and/or delete data. Most games use databases and not ini files to store data like this, for many reasons. It's silly, databases can be automatically backed up, it's so simple to create a copy of a database, a database is generally faster on the whole search and change part. You also have to remember two things, this game has a website, that has to change userdata as well as the game itself, and that game developers don't want to reinvent the wheel.
With that said, most games that use ini files (or consoles, such as PS3) use them in two cases, singleplayer and for settings. It doesn't make sense to use a database to store controls. Games that use it in singleplayer, it just doesn't make any sense to use a database to store every user's information, especially for two reasons. One being, for a single player game, the company doesn't need the user's data. Why would they?
Next, with them reinventing the wheel and the whole website and game thing, why would they use ini files, in all honesty? That would mean that they'd have to make their own ini ASP (if that's really their website server language) parser and they'd have to make their own ini C/C++ parser. That is a waste of time, especially since all you have to do is type a few words for each of the columns, for names, ids, etc. for a database and you'll already have a safe way, fast way of storing data and searching/editing it.
Next, unique IDs are not usernames. Although usernames are unique, because no two can be the same, that wasn't what I was talking about. What I'm talking about, is every time you look at a profile there will be something like, "User.aspx?ID=48759" the ID=48759 is my user's ID, and no two people, keyword on "people" have the same ID#. One reason you can use this, is because in stored content, such as places, shirt, etc, use the id to search for the user and then get the user's display name. This would make it so that regardless of who the username is, it'd display the right name.
Another, cool feature that MySql has, is that you can set fields unique, and when a field is unique it won't insert new data. With that said, you can never have two usernames/display names. The database will check if it's an existing user, if not then create, if it is, then do nothing, or error if not caught.
The following are examples on how to set up a database, this is in Sql, because there is no particular language to be used
The user table
CREATE TABLE `users` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `username` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `pass` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `content` mediumtext COLLATE utf8_czech_ci NOT NULL, UNIQUE KEY `id` (`id`,`username`) );
Changing username
UPDATE users SET username = newusername, WHERE id = $id;
CREATE TABLE `content` ( `content_id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `user_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `description` varchar(255) DEFAULT NULL, `content` mediumtext COLLATE utf8_czech_ci NOT NULL, UNIQUE KEY `content_id` (`content_id`) );

The same happened to me, I was young and I choose this nickname, now I'm "old" and I think this nickname is obsolete.
We should be able to change nickname once after register or like 1 time in each X years or with Builders club or anything, I just want to change it >.<
This idea is really old and roblox did nothing yet, when the feature comes (if it comes) the name may be already taken by another guy or a new & inactive account.... HURRY PLEASE |
