ViViD Game Engine is the nickname for my newest script, which, while it is not a game engine in the traditional sense, it is meant to be custom tuned to games im making on Roblox.

While I am not going to mention any details about my current game, I will point out and tell you not to expect it soon, as I am currently working alone.
The game is being slowly developed, and as more people join my development staff, the game will slowly edge towards completion.

But what I can tell you about the game ?
Its going to be very different from any roblox game, in concept, feel, and graphic style.

Anyway, back to the topic of the engine :

ViViD is a game engine which is meant to streamline the addition of rendering features and special effects. In addition, it supports level compressing & de-compressing, a feature meant to stabilize frame rate.

Supported features in the current version :

1. Color Saturation/ de-saturation
2. Bloom Lighting
3. Motion Blur
4. Realistic Draw Distance
5. On-the-fly Level Compressing/ Decompressing
6. Smart-Cam (camera is more fluid and dynamic)
7. Weather Effects Support (rain, fog, lighting, and snow supported)
8. Realistic Water

Right now, the Engine is being ruthlessly studied to determine what works and what doesnt : and how to fix it.

Wow.
Good luck on this. It sounds awesome. You should tell the guys in the Scripters forum when you are done.

I wouldn't say nay quite yet.

If you think this is a waste of time for the person trying to develop it, then that's okay. I think that they should try, and if it's a waste, then they probably learned something while working. Don't say it's impossible until you don't see it happen (which means "never say never" btw).

Now, you said these things were already supported. I'd appreciate it if you said how.

I remember SMOD for Half Life 2 in which they were able to incorporate the graphics of the next-generation Source games such as HL2: EP2.

This could be a good start for Roblox Game Developer like you in which you can apply the ViViD Script to your place, simulate what it does, and bravo, a close-to-HD game for Roblox.

I looked on your profile; the game you're making sounds like a big rippoff of Shadow of the Colossus.

Anyways, this sounds great!

@palkia

Its not a "rip-of".

If you seen the actual game, it would not resemble it in any way, except for battling giants (which these are completely different giants)

@ sam

Assuming I don't know what im talking about is pretty pathetic if you ask me.

@food

Intially its going to be closed source for my current game.

Awhile later, when features like these found in Vivid become common place, I plan on making it open source.

One of the biggest issues I am working on right now is finding a way for the weather to not effect the frame rate, im trying to find a way to make it less cpu intensive.

Good News :

The Dynamic Lighting part of the engine is 100 % done !

Now, it needs some extensive debugging.

I will not release the script as a model until it is 100% complete, though.

Personally, I think that:

"If it's not open-sourced, it's not worth getting excited at."

Because I'm really a supporter of open source.

Eventually it will be open source.
But only when enough people know who first made the engine.

A question and an idea as well:

Are you planning on inputting some sort of custom animation system within this ViVid engine? I have been waiting to see contextual animations on ROBLOX as well. It would be absolutely amazing if you were to make the weather have effects on the environment - Rain would form puddles, snow would appear upon the ground(affecting your traversing of the environment), etc. I am using Assassins Creed 3 as my basis for this. It's something to look at.

If you need me to create anything for the game, I would be more than happy to do so. Preferably environments. I love ambition in games and this game seems to have a lot of ambition. I would love to give my full participation in the project.

As of now , I don't have a custom animation system, but I will be using it for my next game.
