Morrowind is closer to a cRPG, Oblivion is a more modernized, slightly dumbed down game.

Buy both.
Play Morrowind if you like "real" RPGs, get Oblivion if you like Skyrim-style games (although Oblivion's somewhere in between Morrowind and Skyrim).

Morrowind's a superior game. Why? Mainly because Morrowind's the best game of all time.

I'm totally unbiased!

Asassin what do I do if I'm scared of frostbite spiders but have to fight through them to get through Ustengrav, speaking of Skyrim?
I'm playing on my Khajiit named khajiit and his magicka regenerates really slow.

Both are great in their own ways.

Morrowind is much deeper and more open world, but it is very outdated, doesn't tell you ANYTHING before dropping you into the world, and doesn't tell you WHAT THE HELL YOU CAN DO. It's the kind of game you have to put dedication to.

Oblivion is much simpler. It doesn't have the same issues as Morrowind. The magic is amazing, IMO Oblivion has the best "evil" playthrough, and you have quite a bit of freedom compared to Skyrim. However, there is a lack of content (45 hours in to my thieving magician and I ran out of things to do), the melee combat is even worse than in Skyrim, archery so pathetic you shouldn't even bother, outdated faces, and extremely scary imperial guards.
