Meldo made a pretty good one for under 300 dollars.

I'm pretty new to this whole "building computers" thing in general. How knowledgeable would I have to be to build one at such an efficient price? |

"Meldo made a pretty good one for under 300 dollars."
Actually it was just over $300.
@XC
You don't seem to count an OS. Sure, there's Linux, but it's not exactly the most reliable OS for gaming...
Anyways, OP, here's the $300-or-so build that Mikey was talking about. Though, at your budget I wouldn't recommend it.
CPU: Intel Celeron G555 2.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($53.37 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: MSI H61M-P31 (G3) Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($45.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Pareema 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($22.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ NCIX US) Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 6670 1GB Video Card ($50.60 @ NCIX US) Case: NZXT Gamma Classic (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($34.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Antec Neo Eco 400W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($44.98 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: Lite-On IHAS324-98 DVD/CD Writer ($24.98 @ Outlet PC) Keyboard: Rosewill RK-101 Wired Standard Keyboard ($8.99 @ Amazon) Mouse: Rosewill RM-C2P Wired Optical Mouse ($4.99 @ Amazon) Total: $346.87 |

If your on a budget go AMD. Something like:
100$ CPU (Phenom II) 50$ mobo 30$ RAM 30$ HDD 100$ GPU 50$ Case
Some money is left over for utilities and OS, im too lazy to start looking for actual parts, i also forgot PSU and DVD drive but if your lucky you can scavenge for them. |

Build? If you take your time (could take up to a year in some cases) you probably won't need much more, just pick up random parts on sale and it'll eventually be done.
If you just plan on buying one and want something that will run most games on Ultra, I'm using an Alienware M14X right now. Mine was 1,500$ but you can grab them for like 999$ ? |

| Laptops are useful. You can put 'em down and use external keyboards/mouses, and then you can pick them up and run off to do something. They're not as good as desktops but are still nice! |

"1.5k if you want a VERY good gaming computer."
1.5k is insanely overkill for a gaming computer...
A $600-$800 computer will run most games, if not every game out there on max. |

No it isn't. If you're including the monitor in the price, maybe, but for the computer alone it isn't.
Most people overestimate needed parts to an insane level, causing massive prices. Hell, a $350 (listed above) will play most games at 720p and medium settings. |

"so chep"
And? You're overestimating vastly what is required for a gaming computer, causing the price to skyrocket. |
