------------------

In the city of Catha, two sides fight with magic, cunning, and everything in between. One side is for a controlled utopia for the city, the other, freedom. The more organized side worships Sanctum, god of order and rebirth, and the anarchic, darker side worships Terrelle, goddess of chaos. Both of the deities lend their soldiers magic, though black magic is evil and corrupted, feeding upon its users from the inside out until their minds are filled with nothing but anger and regret. Light magic, on the other hand, is less powerful, and has no effect on the mind. The lighter side is usually stealthier than the dark side, while the dark side has less mercy, and more willingness to kill when needed, or even when it is not necessary. Most citizens outside of the organizations, however, wish for both sides to be put to death for the good of their dear Catha, and so that the fighting would cease.

------------------------------------------------

The two figures darted on the rooftops. Rain drizzled steadily over the daunting city of Catha , but they managed to keep their ground. The two figures did this for the next few minutes, until they made their way up to an immense, domed roof. One hurled a dagger but the other flattened against the roof and kicked it away, and then slid smoothly up to them and withdrew a large, crude metal hook from their robes before impaling them. Blood spurted from their chest and there was a disturbing choking noise. The other one drew away, less graceful than before and watched the body fall silently down into the city streets.

It's been like this for the past few months, ever since the Lord Sanctum and the Lady Terrelle began quarrelling. For eons, the duo had lived in Catha- In fact, they had founded the splendid city in the first place. They had been gods- Husband and wife, as a matter of fact. They built the city as a symbol of their unity and love for one another, but did not bother to govern it and only accepted tribute. The people governed themselves and set up their own system, but lately they have been wanting more control. When they began to debate, they started developing different ways to rule. It was common knowledge that the Lady Terrelle wasn't one for organization or keeping people in line, and it was also common fact that her husband, the Lord Sanctum always wanted clean, neat systems and control. It wasn't until now, however, that the traits really began to show.

The Lord Sanctum started devising entire systems and rules for the people to follow, but Lady Terrelle interjected and told him they should leave the citizens on their own. Sanctum disagreed and the two actually began fighting. Although they tried to keep it discreet, the citizens eventually found out. Many didn't even want to get into the matter. They forgot about it and decided to let the deities sort it out, but a small portion began rooting for each side. Sanctum's followers were known as Utopians, whereas his wife deemed her faction Liberators (though deemed Chaos-makers and anarchists by some Utopians). The Gods were quite powerful and decided they'd give each follower special powers activated when given certain tools.

Each side had a small portion of "assassins". Really, they often end up killing each other, so they're more like soldiers with perfected stealth or combat. The rest consists of alliances, strategists, masterminds, and messengers. When Liberators use their powers, they can do it effortlessly...at least physically. However, they become emotionally vulnerable and feel unbearable rage and guilt. As a result, they're more "sympathized", whereas Utopians simply lose physical power and it's only endurance for them.
----------------------------------------------------

Weapons

Utopian Weapons

Diasbler:A small knife that can be easily concealed within a pocket or used as a hidden blade. It is nontlethal but great for digging into enemy pressure points.

Jet blade:A longer dagger that is not very well concealed. A straight line goes between too lines of the blade making a empty hole. If you can lock weapons with a enemy and slide there weapon into the straight line you can easily yank it out of your foes hands. This is a ancient schematic that is unknown how the hooking works but it still does.

Jailer: This bow launches a chain that is attached too an arrow. When the arrow hits the momentum makes the chain swing around and around untill the target is wrapped up.

Pumper:This bow takes a long time too load and charge up because it generates electricity to eletrocute the target it hits.

Liberator Weapons

Bow

Blood Bow: The wounds inflicted from this bow never heal.

Hook: Originally a sword, until a blacksmith got...Creative with it's crafting, making a large curve in the middle. The hook was found more effective in disarming and countering enemies, so it has become a staple of the Liberators.

Shortsword: A common sidearm of the liberators, the

Bayonet Pistol: A double barreled flintlock pistol with a blade attached, usually used as a sidearm (or dual wielded with a shortsword for the more agile liberators or couriers)

Flame Staff: A large metal staff that has flames on each end. It's not magical, but rather has coal on both ends that are ready to light. The weapon is especially popular among couriers, who must carry a torch to see in the night anyway.

Music Box: A typical music box that makes a terrible screeching noise rather than actual music. Less experienced Utopians find themselves caught off guard by the harm it creates, and more experienced Utopians by the noise. This makes the box a good way to break an enemies defense.

Combat Crossbow: A special crossbow fitted for melee combat, able to endure more hits and can be used as a blunt weapon.

Spike Dagger: An average, sharp knife with blades on the handle and on the bottom of the handle. It has a space where the hand can go, but regardless, it requires training to properly hold the weapon.

---------

Light Magic: Light magic is mainly healing and putting others out of consciousness, though more powerful users can heal wounds that aren't physical. This has proven useful, with numerous accounts of powerful magicians defeating powerful Liberators simply by calming them down and converting them, allowing them to simply fade away into the Utopian ranks. Light magic does not put a strain on the mind, though it can decrease physical power. If you're using light magic enough to decrease physical power, however, physical power probably isn't something you really need. So long as you have enough endurance, light magic can be used with little resistance.

Black Magic: Foribidden, lethal magic. There are few limits to black magic. With enough knowledge, power, and creativity, a wielder of black magic can be unstoppable.
However, black magic slowly wears away the mind. Not in the form of losing wit. Intelligence will remain. No, black magic causes the user to be more easily enraged and possibly confused, perhaps even regretful. It's said that the most experienced magicians will see red and feel their blood boil simply by having a dim light in the corner of their eye.
It's not as simple as simply not casting any more black magic. Users become addicted to the magic. Practice, patience, and studying are required to keep your sanity for more than a few years when using black magic.

Additional:

Terrelle's Staff: It's not really her staff, that thing's more than money, but it's certainly not a basic tool. Terrelle Staffs range from four to six feet long, usually made from twisting, dark, wiry wood. It hooks at the end, almost like a sheperd's stick but much more jagged. A deep green jade in the shape of a spiral. It can be used as a physical weapon and inflict no phsycological damage on the user, but when you activate it the staff it put your conscious in an alternate "Nightmare" world. It's a morbid, dreary place and you'll probably find yourself encountering your worst fears. This usually immobilizes your body because you're so afraid, it takes years of practice to keep physical and mental control. The user however, has to spend one fifth of the time their victim does in the Nightmare World and makes them quite irrational shortly after.

Rules:

1 No godmodding/instakilling. Give eachother a fair chance and play nicely.
2 No romance. Flirtacious glances are the absolute farthest you can go, or a nun will slap your bare baby bottom with a wooden, splintering yardstick while the rest of the class laughs at you. Followed by hanging. And Chinese water torture.
3 No 'hardcore' swearing.
4 The opposite sides hate each other. They likely will not go out to brunch every Tuesday together.
5 No overusing your magic- i.e. "i conjure up a mansion and a lamborghini and a million dollars and still have enough of my magical stuffs left over to kill the bad guys trying to break in."

(Haha, understandable. I did leave some details out- okay, a lot, especially in appearance, I might actually modify it a bit throughout the RP- because I do like to write things out like, "...a lost, russet lock unfurled from beneath the ivory of her cap, glistening in the winter's snow..." etc.

P.S. That example was cheesy. )

(cheesy examples are the best examples)

(Because screw time zones, I have very little time left. Though I can explain what I can, I'll probably be leaving a lot out.)

Avail

I feel the chains at my feet and hands. I always feel the cold chains at my feet and hands. It's been... 3 days? An uncountable amount of time trapped with no way out in a dark, gloomy room. How funny that something can move so quickly from a metaphor to something so literal.

Finally, there's a crack of light. I squint, half in pain and half in sensitivity.

"I'm disappointed, Avail." It was the voice of an old man. Old, but deep and strong, as if he walked into this room simply to snap my neck. Presumably with the cane I heard tapping along the floor.

"I hate you."

"Ah, but we've just met! How about a glass of wine to celebrate our recent meeting?"

Ha. Ha.

I'd spit at him if the chains weren't wrapped so tightly around my neck. Shockingly, my black hood and cloak was still there. They must have searched me before bringing me to wherever this place is. Regardless, something did feel missing...

"Now then, Avail," He said my name as if I were an ant. A pawn. "I'd thought you'd know better than to-"

"And what could you possibly know about me?"

"Well, how about we list a few things? You were sent to us by your father, a very good ally over the years very much unlike yourself, and you had something rather peculiar about you. You couldn't use any sort of magic. Rather, you were born with an ability. Outstanding agility and speed. A good sense of fluid movement, as we found out later. Unfortunately, we didn't want people who can't even cast a spark, so we'd considered simply throwing you out onto the street. Also unfortunately, your father insisted that you be an assassin, so we didn't. We tried training you in speed for a while, but you had that down from the start, so we instead trained you in weapon use and you learned movement on your own. It was about...20 years of training? More than anyone else in the group. You're likely the most skilled in areas other than stealth. We figured you'd at least be smart enough to know better than to betray us."

"I betrayed nobody."

"You were an asset, Avail, a very useful tool, and soon to be one again," He raised his voice. "A deserter is a traitor, and a deserter that had his rich daddy pay for his rather expensive training for most of your life, all day when you weren't on missions, may as well be a heretic!"

"And that 'tool' could very well have deserted the extremist insane anarchists to join the deluded control freaks. But did I?"

"What, you thought you could simply leave? Like that? Join society? A born assassin? Face it! You have a natural urge to kill. It's a surprise you committed so few murders- yes, we know about those- for the 5 years that you attempted to settle down-"

"I do love practicing self contro-" I interrupt, with the intent of sarcasm. A rare thing coming from me.

"Shut up," he interrupts, with the intent of getting me to shut up. Not a rare thing coming from whoever this man is. "You barely know how to breathe normally, since the fire."

"Shut up."

"Speaking of which," he ignores me, "you may notice your new mask."

I have felt something a bit heavier on my face lately.

"Not too fancy. Black, covers your face, except for your eyes. Simple but effective."

"Effective?"

"Yes, effective, because that mask is slightly hollow. We filled the space with gunpowder and connected it to my soul. I am a master of fire, and I can see whatever you see and hear whatever you hear from this point on, which means you will follow my every word unless you'd like the top of your face to match the bottom."

I'm speechless for a moment. There's a long silence.

"Fine..." I mutter.

"Fine, sir, you mean?"

Another long silence. A much, much longer one.

"Fine, sir." The word "sir" is said with a special kind of disgust.

"Good."

He releases me.

"Follow me."

I step into my black boots and take my weapons off the wall, following the man outside. It's night. Something is finally going right.

He hands me an envelope.

"Follow the adress on the envelope. It will lead you to the man who will give you your first contract. I'd suggest using the rooftops."

I snatch the envelope, snort, and get on my way.

(jesus christ that was longer than i thought it would be)

You would think that on a calm night, the rooftops would be the ultimate stress reliever for a man who can move so quickly and fluidly. But no. There's something about rooftops. I believe being taught it's because it requires the most movement and concentration, making the passive dark energy blah blah blah. I'm enraged by the time I get to a large gap. I'm not often enraged like that. I've built up a tolerance. However, moving across rooftops for so long for such a long distance- the address is way too far away- is starting to drive me insane.

Jumping across a very large gap, though, has taken most of the energy. I calm down and sit for a second, catching my breath and allowing myself to regain energy. The Old Man clearly doesn't have a short time limit, or my face would be on fire right now.

As I regain my energy, I notice the sound of running and get up. I see a figure across the gap. Given my nature, I start muttering.

"Who the hell-"

"One of us."

It's the voice of the Old Man. I look around in confusion, trying to see where it comes from. There's an audible sigh of frustration, though not mine.

"Part of my soul is connected to this mask, remember? Don't worry. Only you can hear me."

Dammit.

"Of course," continues the Old Man, "traitors as bad as you aren't exactly loved by the Liberators. You'd better hope she doesn't use enough black magic to see through that mask of yours, because I'm not letting you kill another Liberator."

"'Another?' I'm not part of your war."

"Well, it seems you are, aren't you? This is your problem. I'd suggest hoping she doesn't have the thought or power to see through this mask. At least you'll have a chance of not being tracked and killed."

"Can't you just tell her not to kill me?"

"What, and let those lower in rank than me know that I'm connected to you in any way without your death as a result? They'd all immediately quit."

"But when I quit, it's all-"

"Another word and I'll use your head as a torch."

Dammit.

How to show that I'm not a Utopian? Oh, wait!

I take out my two bayonet pistols. Utopians, being pacifists, wouldn't possess such items. It's a risk, as she may consider it hostility, but it's this or be tracked throughout whatever is happening.

I put away the pistols, but spread my arms and bring my shoulders up in a shrug, as to ask why she's still watching.

There are some that know of my new raspy voice after the fire, and if this woman reports the voice, or worse, knows it, I'll be hunted to death.

(nvm thought of something)

Just as my blood starts boiling again, I grab a ledge and see the room of my contractor ahead as I climb up. I walk to it and jump to the room, handing him the envelope. He opens it and looks over the contents, nodding his head every once in a while.

"Right then. You must be Avail."

"Keep it down!" A harsh whisper, but there's the risk that the woman followed me.

"Uh huh. I am Edipin. I'll be the one planning and giving you your missions." He extends his hand, but retracts it when I don't react. He hands me another envelope.

"First thing's first: There's a Utopian strategist. His position is a bit like my own, planning the missions for more talented Utopian individuals. I'm a bit impressed with his work, him getting me out of the way numerous times temporarily and came close once permanently. I think it's time, however, that we remove him. If he's written down any plans, bring them to me that I may draw inspiration. You're dismissed."

I leave and jump back to the rooftop. Dismissed...So glad I have permission from my new overlords.
