| I got a Macbook Pro today, and just purchased a iOS development license, what would be a useful app for scripters? |

"Apple products are overpriced umad."
How can it be overpriced if over 45% of the entire market consists of it?
"ew no"
Why not?

"Why not?"
Because there's no reason to do it on mobile when you can do it on a computer. |

Generally people make apps rather than programs because they're either easier to access or they need touch controls.
This falls into neither of those categories. |

app = application application == program
"need touch controls"
Any app that needs touch controls can easily work on a PC if it is ported (Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc.)
Besides, the current way of making GUIs is absolutely horrid.

Do we really need to argue about words if you understand the meaning?
"Any app that needs touch controls can easily work on a PC if it is ported (Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc.)"
I have lots of games and apps on my iPad that wouldn't work well on a computer. Fruit Ninja, Glow Hockey, Labyrinth 2, and Temple Run are all examples of games that would not work well on a computer. |

What's wrong with Apple and their products? There's no better choice, really. Windows is an abomination in every way possible and Linux is half-baked. |

Good point.
However, that doesn't change the fact that there are computers that perform just as well for a much cheaper price.
MacBook Pro: 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz 4GB 1600MHz memory 500GB 5400-rpm hard drive1 Intel HD Graphics 4000
$1199.00
Inspiron 15R: 3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i7-3632QM (6MB cache, up to 3.2Ghz) 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz 1TB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive Intel® HD Graphics 4000
$779.99
Although it is worth noting that the MacBook has some pretty sweet software included, the price looks silly when comparing these machines. |

@awsum The reasoning of why Apple products generally tend to be more expensive are actually multiple reasons:
1) Supply and demand: It's nowadays "PC and Mac". Mac is its own category while there are many PCs running Windows, causing people to either buy different types of PCs or one type of Mac. Therefore, demand is much higher for that one certain model.
2) Apple makes both hardware and software: For Windows laptops, OEMs retrieve licenses from Microsoft. Apple builds both the hardware and the software and the software is custom built for the hardware which is also built by Apple.
3) Compression: It's really light, beautiful, and powerful at the same time. You really need to give them credit. |

Considering you'd want an office suite (Microsoft Office, ~$500), an image editor (Adobe Photoshop, $650), a movie editor (Sony Vegas Pro, $600)..
$799.99 + $1750 = $2549 vs. $1199
Most people forget that when they buy a MacBook, they're not just paying for the hardware.
And while we could argue all day about which piece of software is better, these are generally considered do-it-all and are comparable to what the MacBook offers.

@tech adding to that, Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (two versions apart) is $20 whereas Windows Vista to 8 is much more. Microsoft did lower the price for Windows 8 which they do receive credit for, but Apple remains the cheapest. |

And besides, anyone can build their own infinitely cheaper computer that does exactly (or even better) what something on the market with a higher price can do.

| I tend to use open source software. Therefore, software compatibility won't be a problem for me when I switch to a Mac. |
